I'd also recommend any distro you can get a live CD working enough to use, and then installing if the features seem right. As an example the laptop I'm using for this came with XP which ran bad. Ubuntu works with the sound and graphics, and nearly all of the other hardware. It's now running the same install but I've switched to KDE for the desktop, and installed MYTH TV as well. I have got myth configured yet but everything else works fine so far. If it wasn't for a few audio issues I would be using PC Linux 2007 instead but would rather not spend all of my spare time hacking a laptop that I just want to work. |
