I have a Billion 7300g on one of my ADSL1 home lines.
I find it to be an unreliable modem hence didn't recommend it for the job.
(it doesn't recover after a power failure).

The most reliable one I have used recently is the Telstra Speedtouch pro.

Anyways, looks like in this case ADSL1 with an 8m connection is faster.

Unfortunately with the inverse square law...most customers don't live close to the exchange.

ADSL2 is a piece of crap for most people is my assessment.

UPDATE:.....

Optus tech support reckon that the street has thin wires or some shit.

I must be real unlucky cause in geelong, adelaide, Clayton all have the same thin wire.

Might give Optus the flick for my customers...try telstra next time I think.

don't know if this has anything to do with anything Z - when I was searching for an isp my exchange which is North Geelong at that time could only support adsl1, but a few weeks later had discovered that the north geelong exchange had been upgraded to adsl2 and had found out that optus were piggy-backing their adsl2 off telstra, so whether your customer is on the north geelong exchnage this may have something to do with it.

Just got my ADSL2 put on through westnet (optus equipment) and I can see the difference, my old speed test used to run at about 7-8000, now its averaging around the 10-12000. My uploads are much quicker and Im also getting an extra 20gb for the same price.

Also guys,

if your line hangs of a cmux (customer multiplexer) or rim (remote intergrated multiplexer) big green cabinet in you street or near by, you cannot get adsl2 with any other provider apart from Telstra.

Regards

Dan
