| Member | Hey all! Cople of questions... I'm looking at getting wireless mobile broadband and I'm a little confused about it all... Does this use the standard 3G mobile network that is available? If so, do I need a special USB dongle to access the network or can I use my mobile phone? And is there a service provider that does prepaid or contractless options?? Cheer |

| Member | Disregard all... I found that yes it does use the 3G network, plus whatever is available. and I can use my phone as a modem - it just cost a pooh load more! Prepaid for Mobile wireless is pretty much non existance, a couple of co's will operate on a month by month basis but its still very expensive.. |

| Member | Just received this email from Exetel could be of interest. New HSPA ‘Mobile’ Broadband Services We have signed a contract with Optus to provide mobile broadbandservices over their 3G networks with a planned ‘launch date’ ofSeptember 15th 2008. These services mean that theoretical speeds of up to 3.4 mbps downcan be provided over large areas of Australia with no need to alsorent a wire line telephone service. Because the HSPA service uses theOptus mobile network it means that you can use broadband anywherethere is connectivity to the Optus mobile network – which is most ofAustralia. We see two major benefits in this service: a) A person who travels on business or goes away on holiday canretain the use of a broadband service in any location where there isan Optus mobile signal.b) As Optus increase the speeds of the service (7.2 mbps is plannedfor early in 2009 with 14.4 mbps and higher speeds planned for late2009) those customers who cannot get ADSL2 in their area will have aviable alternative. We have yet to complete a thorough testing program that willdetermine exactly what can be delivered over this service in differentareas of Australia but will do that over the next 4 weeks. Our initialtesting shows that in capital cities the service delivers up to 2mbps, occasionally up to 2.8 mbps. In other areas the speeds varygreatly and we have not yet formed a view as to what the minimum speedis likely to be. As Optus upgrades their 3G networks the speeds obtained, in evenquite remote areas, are likely to continue to improve but to whatlevel is not known to us right now. To use the service the customer will need a USB ‘micro modem’that attaches to either a desktop or lap top PC via a USB cable. Likeall HSPA services no additional software or set up is needed – justplug in the USB device and it configures itself within 2 minutes andfrom then on you can use the internet by simply opening your browser. We expect to have the initial service plans up on the web site by 1stSeptember for delivery by 15th September. |

| Member | I posted in the mobile phone forum and got retarded responses, perhaps in here I will get a better response .My customer is based in NZ, but travels semi-frequently to Australia. When they last investigated getting a 3G mobile data plan they needed to be a resident of Australia with a utility bill or similar proof of living in Australia. Is there any mobile plans that we can sign up for with NZ Passport & Credit card, or is it pretty much a no-go if we don't have a proof of address in Australia. Payment won't be an issue, and we are happy to provide credit card for monthly payment and sign up to a 24 month term. |

| Junior Member | Missus just got a new plan with 3 which included a Wireless internet dongle (1gb per month). Piece of piss to setup, all the installation stuff is on the modem. The default setting on the 3 toolbar thingy is for '3G only' so that should take care of the roaming charges. |
