Default AE92 Toyota Clutch Change

Anyone done a clutch change on an AE92.

A friend’s clutch is slipping and I am wondering if I have to drop, the motor out of it can be done on the car. I have an engine hoist, which will make it less painful

A PDF of the manual would be nice but I cannot find on line for AE92 1992 model

Ive just been looking, the best i can find is ae86 here

Or this which is too new.

This is the quick general Toyota instructions covering all configurations in separate sections for workshops.

Dropping the tranny is the go.

Just hang on for Hillbilly, he may know where there may be a detailed manual.

I did a clutch on mine a few years ago, I remember very little about it as I had a mechanic mate do 85% of it and I was drunk...

but we didn't take the motor out, it was a pain in the ass though.

depends on what motor you have
4AFE easy - 3 hour job
4AGE pain in the ass - 5 hour job

there pretty simple cars man, just start it, and when you begin to pull things off you will see how easy it really is.

also if you get stuck yyou might be able to find some info on here

I had a look for a manual, but no luck, it seems no one has uploaded one, and I can only assume because it's not to difficult to figure out if you have some mechanical knowledge, If I find something I will post it up

Thanks for that great info. I did a 3S-GTE in a GT4 a few years ago which was a pain this should be much easier. Pity she only told me at 5 pm last night with a three-day long weekend just gone. Female logic I guess.

Happy to say all done. I jacked up the front of the body, removed the drive shafts and engine cross members then lowered one end of the motor via a trolley jack and unbolted the transmission while supporting it with an engine crane from above.

Thankfully the clutch disc had only just reached the rivets and the flywheel was in good condition.

Pretty easy job, which was made even easier due to the fact there is no pilot bearing in the centre of the flywheel so it’s simply a matter of putting the clutch disc in the centre of the pressure plate and mating the transmission shaft is easy.

I also found an oil cooler line hose, which was almost ready to pop off. That could have been a massive disaster had it done so while the car was being used. I am now in the happy position of being owed a ton of housework

Geez, Hilbilly, do us older blokes have to teach you everything?

Break something (or make it appear that way) and make out you killed yourself fixing it and saved her a fortune.

Asking her for money for parts is optional but great if you need beer/lap dance money.

Hope my Mrs dont read this or ill be found out.

my missus is far to smart for that! she would catch me and then it would be Mrs Palmer for about a month!

for it to actually work for me I would actually have to do some major physical work, like when I split all the wood from the gum tree we dropped, much much hard work, and all I got was a couple of fellatio sessions and a few bed work out sessions!

it was hardly worth it really!
