    Default GoCart Using Starter Motor?

Kids got a GoCart but its too slow because they older now.
Was thinking about chucking in a Car Starter Motor to replace the motor in there now.

    Is this feasible.
I was wondering about how it ain't meant to be running all the time and may be overheat and burn out.

Don't wanna chuck in a Whipper Snipper.
    Too noisy.

Time I have plenty, money I got none.
Well I got money really, but I find eating is good.

EDIT: Its one of them pissy GoCarts what goes about 10 or 15 k's an hour.

If you've got plenty of them, no harm in sticking one in to give it a shot. I'd be heat sinking it though.

Does this go kart have a battery? because a starter motor will drain the battery pretty fast.

Accelerator control? A massive variable resistor? Or just a on/off switch? LOL

How about you throw the motor and battery cost out, find a good hill and tell the kids the exercise pushing it back up is good for them.

What id be doing is staying with a real engine and installing a good muffler to take the noise away.

Bugger recharging batteries and the cost of replacing them.

Yeah the GoCart runs originally 2 by 12 Volt Batterys in series to pump a 24 Volt Motor

A Flat battery after 10 minutes ain't a concern for me.
Might piss the kids off a little.
But going up and down the street for 10 minutes probably be enough for everyone anyway.
It ain't like a day out or nothin'

    Did't think about the accelerator
At the moment there is an electronic accelerator , but with the current draw , obviously the original simply won't make it.
    Thanks for that Godzilla.

    Godzilla.
It never had a petrol motor, just a pissy electric motor.
It designed for maybe 5 to 10 year olds, depending how politically correct the parents are.

    Hey Godzilla.
Can you slap mufflers in series?
Like the first one drops the firing noise Big Time as usual , and the second one drops it another heap , or would the second one do nothing?

I like Godzilla's idea of suppressing the noise of a real engine, as can't see the battery/starter motor lasting too long.

Besides, I generally worry when kids are too quiet - as possibility they are up to no good or something has gone wrong

Most cars are series, first muffler leads to the second on so on.

Look for the biggest mufflers you can find, run one to the next.

I wonder how running the exhaust outlet into a 4 liter paint can full of fiberglass wool would sound? Pretty quiet id guess

Clutch can be a centrifugal clutch from a whipper snipper or old chainsaw.

Brakes....old car disk, a couple of old brake pads welded to some old bicycle brake calipers, cable runs back to the brake pedal.

It worked too, when i was 13 i was given the arc welder, some wheel barrow wheels, metal and a lawn mower engine.

I had fun building everything including the steering wheel with built in kill switches and fabricating a new intake manifold for the carb so the lawn mower engine could sit upright.

Amazing what a little thought could build.

I dunno whats a regen circuit, but the frame has a brake, a drum type.
And there ain't no clutch on account there ain't no gearbox.
The speed of the motor governs the speed of the vehicle.

Wish I had the interest in welding when I was 13 years old.
When I was 13 I still was positive there was such a thing as girl germs

if you are just after speed why not just change the gear ratio of the 24 volt motor, using a starter motor suxs i used one on a scooter i made the battery died pretty quick and the motor did not last long as it over heated, they are just not built to run all the time ?

I remember when I was at University years ago learning about motors hearing that starter motors require a significant load on them to keep their speed down. If you run them with no load they spin so fast they self destruct. They gave one example of a guy using one to build a home made lathe which led to tragedy.
