has he checked if there is a real one available, for that type of vehicle I wouldn't think so, a lot of the ones available just play with fuel mixtures and may feel different but there's not much science about it and the results are often worse, if he wants better economy he has more chance of getting that by adjusting his driving style
Statistically, three out of five people are not the other two

I'm wary of those cheap chips. Some just turn up the fuel for more power but then you may get more issues like high egt's.
I would chat to a diesel specialist and also worth a post on the Pajero forum.

steinbauer is the only one i would recommend, the cheaper ones just increase fuel rail pressure leading to injector problems.

i personally wouldnt chip a late model diesel, the extra fuel just produces extra heat , leading to long term cracked heads and blown gaskets. car makers will wipe your warranty if you add a chip of any sort.

as leroy says , adding an EGT probe is a wise move for any diesel.

Had a DP Chip in my Rodeo 08 Common Rail for over 30000k's. Sold the vehicle, still have the chip. Definate power/torque increase with slightly better consumption when driven normally. DP Chip marketed by Berrima Diesel. If I bought another diesel, I would chip it again.
