WH Statesman annoyance
I have a 99 WH Statesman and the "exterior Temperature" constantly reports as 21 or 22 degrees regardless of what the actual ambient temperature is. I picked up a "new sensor" at the wreckers the other day hoping that this would fix the problem but no such luck. From the service manual it appears that all it is connected to is the BCM which then reports to the ECC its reading. The manual states that a techII is needed to diagnose as there is no indication as to what a default "error message" would be, or why it constantly reports 22C.
My question is, would a generic "techII" as sold on EvilBay for a few dollars be able to diagnose this and (also) reset an airbag warning (which was activated when I pulled the car apart some years back and never got around to fixing.) I can't justify spending gigadollars on a device that is likely to get used only once or twice.

generic obd2 scanners dont normally connect to other modules in the car such as abs/bcm. Tech2 with the appropriate holden software card is the way.
Or cheaper alternative is the launch idiag, cost is roughly 80 plus 70 for the holden software this lets you connect to all modules and have bi-directional controls plus some programming features.

does the reading change if you remove the sensor ? and does it change if you short out the 2 wires to the BCM ? could be a wiring fault.

I considered that, VroomVroom, but it is not something I have tested yet, 'cause whenever I think of it, I am nowhere near my car! As the thread title says, it's an annoyance, not a major fault.
