![]() | Hi, I have a Kenwood 2 pin pluged (the one for kenwood HT radio's) speaker mic, I would like to know if anyone knows if you can buy a replacement plug as the internal wires at the plug end have just broken, I don't want to replace the whole mic just the plug... Surely there much be such a part available somewhere??? Other wise am I just left to make my own out of 2 seperate plugs (2.5mm and 3.5mm)? Thanks |

![]() | You should be able to buy the cable and plug from Kenwood as a replacement part. I don't know who the Kenwood agent is in Oz, but find out and call them. I would guess this to be a "high-use" part - surely more people than just you have ended up with broken ones. If they can't supply it, then yeah - 3.5 and 2.5 mm plugs will sort it. |

![]() | I just so happend to have a 3.5mm right angle and a 2.5mm right angle plugs in my collection of goodies, In the 3.5mm housing I sighted up the distance between the pins of the socket on the radio and drilled a hole in just the right place, I used only the 2.5mm connector without it's housing and superglued it into the 3.5mm housing where I drilled the new hole, along with the 3.5mm, wired it up, made sure it worked, then filled the cavitys of the 2 halves of the housing with araldite then mated them up together, now just to wait for the araldite to cure. I'll post a picture of the final product later after araldite cures... The parts I used are the same ones you can currently buy at Jaycar this is the 3.5mm Jaycar Electronics this is the 2.5 Jaycar Electronics Good luck making your own... P.S. this took me about 45 mins (not encluding curing time) |

![]() | In all honesty its one of those "kenwood clones" more precisly a KYD/NEE, the speaker mic was already bought off "the bay", even though these items are very cheap, I didn't want to buy a compleat unit (very waistfull), only the plug for the end that was comercialy/professionaly made (Pin alignment and depth etc). The one I have made works, but, before I glued it all together the pins where perfectly lined up but after glueing they are no longer precisely spaced, maybe 0.5-1 mm out which makes for a slightly tight fit in the sockets and the worry of ripping the sockets off of the circuit board with the excess force. |
