From it's design specs... a bit hard for a homemade one if you designed it yourself.

Specs and pics will help a bit.

    Post Antennas

I have create a J pole for a 446 mhz. That should be 2-3db gain? Also from you antenna, how long should the coax cable be? 2.4m?

    A typical J pole antenna has around 2.5 - 3dB gain.

Feeder cable can be any length, obviously taking into account the loss of the particular cable used.

RG213 or better would be preferable for anything over a few metres length, especially at UHF frequencies.

    Unhappy Programme frequency

I have managed to get a copy of the software (dos ver)for my T2015-221 radio from a friend. Did a silly thing and overwrite my freq that was on the radio. I am trying to program these channes again but do not know what the RX and TX is? Do they go together with the freq (136 - 174mhz.)?

136-174mhz is the frequency operating range of the radio, meaning that only frequencies between those two limits can be entered.

If you have not saved the channel frequency (and other information) prior to deleting it, then there is no way of knowing what settings the radio had in it before you made changes to it.

Lesson to be learnt.. save info before making any changes.

    Mossie,

Your posts are becoming very confusing as to what you are trying to achieve... perhaps if you were more specific on that, it would help with what information you need.

In one post you say you've 'created' a j-pole antenna for 446MHz, but now you imply you have little knowledge about frequencies and the meaning of TX and RX????

Those terms (and numerous others) are abbreviations of RF terminology.

TX in transmit and RX is receive... what is the effect if you leave them out?... assuming you mean when programming a radio....if you leave out TX, the radio will not transmit, if you leave out RX, the radio will not receive.

The Tait T2015-221-000 radio, as I have explained, is a VHF radio designed to operate on frequencies between 136-174MHz.

It cannot be programmed for any UHF frequencies, including 446MHz, or UHF CB if that's what you are trying to do.

    Are you in Australia?

Are you intending to use a radio to communicate on UHF CB?

Are you intending to use a radio to communicate on amateur bands?

Are you intending to use a radio to communicate on commercial bands?

Do you wish to listen to radio communications only? eg: not transmit.
A radio scanner is a better option to do that.

There are strict licensing requirements which apply to transmitting.

Although you don't require a licence as such for CB, the eqipment used must comply with technical standards and there are rules regarding it's use.

There's heaps of info available on the net... you just need to look.

You could also try local radio clubs, both CB and amateur.

An excellent book to learn about radio is the ARRL Handbook

There's also an edition that's specifically for antenna design.

    Wink Explain time...

Hi, no i am not in Australie, i am in Soutf Africa. I do have a radio called Zartek 708 which is a 446 MHZ radio. For that radio I have build an antenna (jpole is one of them)
The Tait radio i got from a friend and was hoping to be able to program it to the 446 MHZ but I do understand the basic of it. In other words, because of the model and hardware configuration it is not possible.
Why ask questions about RX and TX is the TAIT is programmed with some FREQ and i also thought i could just use any to program. This is not the case thou i need to apply for a Radio frequency at ICAASA. I will use your reference and read more about RX and TX and freq. I have bought a TK8302 rKenwood radio and will use that for the 446 mhz and still apply for the license.
I belong to a CPF (Citizen Police Forum) for our area and need the radio for comms with the other people.

Thanks you for your patients with me. Your information is very useful.

You're quite right..... VHF Hi band is 321... the rest still applies... can't be modded for UHF without changing the RF board.

    Hi,

For your Q1. Looks like the Firmware in the T2020 is V7.23, if it is written on the top of the plug-in chip inside or shows on the screen when you switch the radio on with the Mic PTT pressed. For that version you need V2.80 or later Windows Programming Software. It should be around the Net somewhere.

For your Q2. In the DOS Software to 'add' the line, tab down or mouse click to the first '!' field and press the F2 key. With any field highlighted, press F1 for help on that field and press F1 again for General Help. In General Help are the commands to add and delete rows or arrays.

Links to the software have been posted on the forum several times previously.

Yes, with the DOS SW, F2 adds a line (eg: provides the fields to enter details)
