The version posted is not the 17.01.02 release

Use the version posted at your own risk.... That is one of the buggy versions that caused so much grief for hobbyists !

R17.01.02 is the latest ASTRO 25 CPS, not sure if there was a new firmware upgrade package released at the same time or not?

No firmware bump as yet as the firmware was not the issue. People trying to firmware upgrade trashed many radios but the firmware was not the problem it was the cps that cocked things up while trying to upgrade your firmware

Radiobruce is correct. The good news is so far I have not heard of any radios getting bricked.

I can confirm that I have done programming & firmware upgrades on xtl5000's and xts5000's with both mobile and portable with NO issues at work.

The issues from 17.01.01 appear to have been rectified from my personal experience. Your mileage my vary

    I have used R17.00.01 with an XTS5000.

The radio exhibits the following symptoms:

Display fails to come on, only backlight when radio boots up.

Display comes on but is corrupted with random segments/characters showing.

Keypad beeps are distorted or not working at all or sound similar to the "Talk Permit Tone" when using the keypad.

Radio menu operation tends to be slow with laggy menus and button responses.

The radio has version 16 firmware and is a Model III in a UHF Q split.

Sometimes these issues appear and sometimes they do not, it is very random.
The radio has been known to work fine for a few days, then play up.

Are these symptoms of R.17 CPS codeplugs or do I have a bad radio?

Anyone else care to share any issues?

What are your host & dsp exact versions and your flash?
Have you got a genuine flash or have you been playing with depot?

Lots of issues have been caused to radios that have been flashed without ibuttons, then use 17.01.01 and you can seriously f!$k p your radio

Let me know the answers and we can look from there

    Cheers
    RB

    Hi RadioBruce!

    My Firmware is R16.00.01
    The DSP is R16.00.01
    Flash is 5A9008-101F87-7

I have no experience with Depot, or flashing radios.
The flash was in the radio when I bought it.

It is a tagless radio (danger flags raised!!) and is possibly a Hong Kong special.
I bought it locally for a good price with a new battery and Impres charger.

The main use for this radio is P25 on the 70cm amateur band (I am a full call) and a few conventional analogue receive only channels.
I was happy with an XTS3000...but it does not support FPP.

A brilliant radio...when it decides to play nice!

Use v16.01.00. Unless you know for a fact that the radio was programmed with v17.xx.xx CPS.

I agree with what Lynt123 has posted

Unless you are positive that the radio has been programmed with 17.01.01 only use r16 release software and you should not have any issues.

17.01.01 release did terrible things to radios that were not flashed in the correct manner, there is talk that Motorola deliberately wrote the code that way, I am yet to be convinced of that fact.

With that said, I have worked recently on a radio that I know was not flashed in the legit way with the latest release and we were able to upgrade the firmware with no issues, hence my reason for not being convinced of the consiparcy theory :-)

It is possible your issues are due to a corrupt code plug, there is a hell of a lot of information that is contained in each & every code plug, but given you also have a no tags job from exact destination unknown that as you say also rings alarm bells.

With no tags you will find it difficult to get legit motorola service for it too.

    Cheers

I have an XTS2500 UHF. I am not 100% sure that is has been programmed by R17.00.00 but I know it was read by R17.00.00 (could read the radio but couldn't write due to the FPP channels). So I figured to try R16.00.00 to see if that would work. The R16.00.00 doesn't even read the codeplug and gives me the following ' Open Radio Failed Error Context: 24, Status: c000039e' Anyone have a clue what is wrong or what software to go to? Thanks Justin.

That error just means that the codeplug version is newer than R16.00.00

Read the radio again with R17.00.00, go into "Radio Information" > "Versioning" tab and look at the codeplug version, if it says 001E then you can still use R16.01.00, if it says 001F you are stuck with R17.00.00 (or newer)?

In case you were wondering, the codeplug version for R16.00.00 is "001D" and R17.01.00 & R17.01.02 are both "0020"
