    Default GME TX4200 Help

    G-day everyone,

I am having a problem with my gme electrophone tx4200. it is displaying on the lcd screen --EE- (eeprom error). due to this none of the functions are working.i read that it may have suffered from a power surge and needs to be re-programmed.

i am wondering if it needs to be re-programmed or if the eeprom chip if burned out.i have the software i just dont have a programming cable and before i purchase one i want to make sure it just needs to be reprogrammed.

Any help or advice would be much appriciated!

I have seen this on several tx4000's and 4200's. If you load the default file that comes with the software it fixes this issue. You may need to check the Selcal ident afterward.
The programming cable for these radios are connected to the parallel printer port on your old PC.

Thanks mate, ive already bought a cable off ebay but this one plugs into the COM 1 port on the back off the computer instead of the parralel port. ive tryed several time to reprogram the radio but the software keeps looking for a cable plugged into the parralel port instead of the COM port. the ad on ebay said it would work with my TX4200 but it dosent. i have no idea what to do. is there a tx4200 software that works with the COM port?

There was some other software available that gave you extra channels, non GME I think.
I have never tried it, not sure what cable it used.
If you get really stuck, I am in Adelaide too, PM your number and we can work something out.

I got hold of a software that lets you program 7 extra channels but it still uses the parallel port. i am going to buy an adaptor that converts a serial plug (COM1) to the parallel port. ill see how that works out and ill get back to you. if i get stuck ill pm you my number.

Not sure if it is still in Windows (cause I use Linux) but there was a DOS mode command where you could redirect output.

    Something like "Mode LPT1 COM1".

Do a Google for Mode command and maybe give it a try.

I really dont think that will work, the serial cable is still going to be the wrong type of interface (rs232 to ttl) where the paralled cable interface is a ttl to ttl.
The software does not use the parallel port in its traditional printer format so a parallel to serial convertor used for printers will be of no use.

the modded software still uses the LPT port. and the lead uses a 74HC04 IC. i do have a copy of the modded software. i would also think that the RSSI would need to be recalibrated also. i can send a pic of a software cable to make if your any good at making them. Adam

The TX 4200 uses a printer cable for programming but after saying that it might not help with your problem. If it comes up on channel 1 when you turn it on then the problem you have is that the memory chip has died.

    cheers

It reverts to channel 1 whenever I turn it on. I read on the Internet that it just needs to be reprogrammed. I might just upgrade to the gme tx4500.

It's likely the eeprom has either failed, or that someone has attempted to reprogram it with the wrong software, wrong programming cable, etc.
