Default Abs-9876

I am curious to whether the ABS-9876 receiver is worth the same second hand value as the ADB-8776 at the moment ? Or do they have different components that make them less " attractive " ?

TIA

So they have different internals ? They are a very similar box , same remote and I think ran exactly the same firmware ?

They should also be useful for receiving Ham Radio Television transmissions in the 1.2GHz band (or higher with suitable downconverter)....wanna get rid of it for a cheap price????

There are other threads on this topic. There may be hope if you can get the last update prior to marrying of the card (see the other threads), but after extensive searching I've been unable to find the software to load the update . Whatever you do, do not do an over-the-air update as it will render the box useless.

There is no way you can do an over-the-air update as they are no longer supported by A*. Can you lift the chips off and manually flash them? You can certainly buy the pic programmers and adaptors on eBay from China. But not for the faint hearted I would suggest.

Flashing images of uncertain provenance is risky at best, you can easily end up with a brick.

Tinkering with ABS boxes is like betting on dogs - play only with what you're prepared to lose. Even though you might occasionally win they're a mug's game in the long run.

The 9876 is already a brick so there isn't much to lose. If you backup the existing firmware before you start you can always arrive back at the beginning.

i have a copy of old firmware but you have to remove chips to program it.
you can connect with OS link software but it is unstable and crashes.
firmware is not stored like a 8776 it is odd even type of storage so both chips need programming.

Aside from the matter of receiving stolen goods, I wouldn't pay even fifty bucks for them. Seriously, people don't seem to realise how easy it is for providers to deploy new countermeasures. It's laughable seeing those who complained about their Gammas stopping after only a couple of months racing repeat their mistake for another month or two of "free" service.

I keep getting PMs asking "how long will it last?" but the question they ought to be asking is "how many weeks' legit subscription (or second-box rental) can I get for $250?"

I'm with GW1, the cost isn't a factor as the unit cannot be sold however just because they appear not to be able to be jtagged doesn't mean that they can't be successfully modified by one means or another.
