Default Strong SRT4653X - recording to VCR? Update?

    Hi,

Am on Aurora C1/Ku band and everything is OK so far. I have an old VCR recorder and hooked it up to this sat box via the RF out connector, which claims to give me UHF channels 21-69. As I do not know if I need a HD VCR recorder or not I am lost.

The VCR in turn is connected to the video RCA plug and one audio plug, so it is not even stereo. As I am not in front of it I am not sure.

With this set-up I did not have any luck so far. What am I doing wrong here?

    Thanks.

Yes, I forgot! Has anyone uploaded the firmware for this box and if so, what sort of a problem did it fix??

    Thanks.

Talking Aurora is Standard Definition only.

    G'Day Cobber,
You need to have a HD decoder, NOT the SRT4653X, to decode the HD signals.
Neither will you get HD from Aurora.
Also you should have an input for TV/AV switched so you select (21/69) or direct AV input from your decoder.
Using that you should be able to record the Standard Definition Channels on Aurora.
The firmware is not a function of your problem, but is readily available if you need it.

Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".

I would buy a cheap PVR capable SD sat receiver to record to a hard disk. So much easier.

Thanks for answers. Leroy: The Strong 4663 would allow me to record via USB to disk, but the management would not allow me to spend more money.

Druid: May I ask you to explain your two solutions to my recording problem as I am one of the wrinklies and am ignorant how I can "switch AV", etc.??

Better still, I have bought an Olin PVR HD USB 2.0 recorder (KMart, $70) and 1 TB disk and can record in Perth to it without problems. But how in the bush? I take it the cabling would be from RF modulator (UHF ch. 21-69) from the Strong box to the aerial input on the Olin BUT what else would I need to do on my late model Sony 1080p TV to record? I obviously would not want to have the TV on all night while I record some blue film on SBS 2.

As Pauline Hanson said after hearing the word "Xenophobic". "Please explain!".

The 4663x would be perfect. Keep an eye out for a second hand one then or put a Wanted add in the Buy Sell section with a price.

    G'Day Cobber,
It would seem that you do not have the manual for whatever reason.
If you follow the layout on page 10, should clarify what I said.
If you need further help, just yell.
    The SRT 4653X manual.

The Aussie webpage does not explain or admit what sort of possible problems the firmware for the Strong 4653X Conax fixes. Does anyone know?

One annoying feature: Manual/blind scan report 136 FTA channels but most of them do not have a signal, so they should not be listed.

Another annoying feature is the fact that they still sell this box in Perth, although it is an outdated model.

What version firmware is on your receiver? I'm sure whatever it is it will be fine for Aurora.
Just delete the channels and so a rescan on 12407V SR30000 FEC 2/3 and make sure you have network scan set to on. This will load all channels in the Aurora bouquet for you.
As for being an old model, yep it's been around for a few years but they are still a good receiver. But for a few bucks more you could of got a 4663x with a USB port that can be used with a hard disk for PVR.

I've a SRT4653X and a SRT4658X running factory conax firmware as well a SRT4663X PVR and to the best of my Knowledge there are no problems with any of these boxes apart from poor drivers.

This is how to save your Aurora Channels only.
    Menu/ Channels/ Pin=0000/ Delete Channels/ Delete All Channels/ OK/ Exit.
    ^ Installation/ OK/ Pin=0000/ Manual Scan/ Select "Optus C1 from Satellite list"/ v Frequency = 12407 / Symbol Rate = 30000/ Polarisation = V/ Search Type = All channels/ Network Search = ON/ Exit& Save
Then you can go into your Channel Favorites List and Create a list called Aurora. That comes under GROUP on your remote.
You can then save any other Network or single Channel, except you don't Delete All Channels to start with.

Why not? They are still as good as any other Standard Definition box on the market.

Thanks. Based on your advice I will not update with the latest 800 kB stb file as the power may just fail in North Walpole during the USB flash burn.
