    Default problems with ch9

over the past few days while watching ch9 the picture breaks up and it goes sorta like snap crackle pop then sometimes it says no signal.

all the other channels are ok, any ideas??

In simple terms.... insufficient signal quality... too many bit-errors.

    There can be many causes.

Either the antenna isn't capturing sufficient signal strengh and 'quality' or it's being lost in cabling/connections.

    Check your antenna hasn't moved.

Check all connections, especially at the antenna... water, rust, corrosion at the balun/terminals.

Ensure you're using good-quality coax. eg: RG6 Quadshield.

Difficult to tell without accurate signal measurements, but that gives you a few things to check for starters.

Failing that there could have been a break in the transmission somewhere along the line.
I find it odd if 4 of the 5 are transmitting normaly that it could be a problem with your equipement, particulary if it eventually restores back to as good as before and no futher disruptions occur day or night, wet, windy or not.

Actually, it's quite common for a single channel to be affected by poor signal, connections, rust, corrosion, water ingress, etc.

Some frequencies can be affected greater than others.

Also sometimes different transmission sites are used by different networks, resulting in slightly different signal paths.

There's a lot of variables which can cause some frequencies/channels to be affected more than others.

Signals fluctuate all the time. If you have signals that are right at the lower-end of the minimum threshold for reliable reception, then even a small change can cause intermittent, or total loss of reception.

At this time the Prime (7 Affiliate) for the Central West of NSW is in the process of rearranging their News service and it was announced they are basicaly transfering the Studio work (Announcer/Presentation) from Orange NSW to Canberra where I think they will then do a News Segment applicable to each of their areas.
I am sure I read Canberra is a main switching Control for most of the Southern Region of NSW and it wouldnt surprise me to see it cover way down into Northern Vic.
Why I mention this is because like all things new, it sometimes goes slighty awry like Blank screens, voice no video or reverse or snips of another program and I noticed during the Weather presentation there was a slight freezing or juddering which made me think it was prerecorded. Late night they do a repeat of the weather and it is definately a record of the earlier broadcast.
Also I have a friend who receives Orange direct and I have rung him to see if he still had reception as I might have lost one or all channels as our translator is an OFF AIR direct line of sight to Orange and it has its moments as does the 2 Lithgow translators.
As MTV points out, there are just so many variables which can make it very difficult sometimes to be sure what is happening.
I think as the system expands and different areas are converted, lots of these little glitches will happen over the next 3 years.
