Default Need to order bulk lot of TVs - Recommendations?

    Hi Folks,

I need to quote on a bulk lot of TVs for an install. The TVs need to be a smaller LED (approx 27 inch roughly) with both analogue and digital tuners. The need to be wall mountable but come with a stand and it would be a plus to be able to utilise a USB hard drive to play back video media files. Does anyone have a recommendation on a model or brand that would be suitable. I was thinking of something like Kogan however they seem to be pretty cheap and nasty. So possibly Samsung? Seems that in the smaller TV segment the price doesn't fluctuate that much. I need to be pretty sure that the model that i get is of good quality as I will be servicing these and the amount of sets that I am requiring I can't afford issues.

    Any thoughts?

And secondly what supplier should I be looking into? Assuming manufacturers direct would be the way to go depending on whether they will sell to an installer rather than a dealer....

If you are going to be servicing the TV's, what brands do you have access to for parts and service manuals etc?

That should be a big influence in your decision.

Cost of small screens generally makes them cheaper to replace than to repair, so I'd be looking at what warranty is offered.

A lot of the smaller Samsung TV's I've seen have no better PQ compared to the cheapies IMHO.

Budget has to be considered. Is your client willing to pay for bigger 'brand name' sets which have no visible advantages over cheapies?

Small screens can vary greatly with native resolution, so your client's requirements in that regard need to be considered too.

The same with what video media formats are required.

You are more likely to get a better deal from somewhere like Kogan, compared to say Samsung, unless you are purchasing thousands.

Your client needs to be aware that all TV manufacturers will eventually stop making TV's with analogue tuners, due to analogue transmissions being progressively switched off around the world, so they may need to reassess their analogue requirements.

I've seen a lot of screens in my travels and as far as PQ goes, TCL screens seem to be good value for the $.

It may even be worth talking to some of the bigger retailers, if you are purchasing a quantity, you may well be able to negotiate a better price from them, than if you go trade. Bulk purchasing power etc.

I'd give isemmens suggestion serious thought based after being told by a fellow who worked at a major soft drink company that it was cheaper for him to buy their product at the Supermarket than where he worked with an employee discount.
Lots of small retailers buy from a local Supermarket because its cheaper than the Whole Sale distributor.

I dont think you would get any cheaper than wholesale from China (but depends on quantity).

You can then have them branded as your own as well (they will put on any badge you like if you are buying enough). Works for Kogan.

for 1400 pieces you've got better options, buying through a retailer isn't too likely though

do they need any special feature, hotel lock, special remote etc?

No real special requirements other than the what I have in the first post. Even then USB is just a nicety.

Obviously your not in Sydney nor involved in the fitting out of Jamie Packers Casino at Barrangaroo which is located at Darling Harbour.

Somehow I don't think James Packer's casino would be interested in cheap 27" screens.

Seriously consider commercial/hospitality panels. The Tier 1 manufacturers offer application specific products that support "Hotel Mode".
As a bare minimum USB cloning for installation is necessary. Manually tuning and setting up 1400 TVs is a job from hell; USB cloning allows a master setup to be quickly loaded into each TV.
If the installation requires USB playback, a remote interface would be desirable if the end user wishes to connect to the product. Seek out some specialist SI companies for advice/supply of appropriate models.
Avoid the lower end of the market, as the support is very limited and once product EOL is announced (if it is) you will need to order up big to continue adequate support.

What, Not even for the Loo?
But if some of the reports you hear of the patrons of these places smashing the furniture and generally running amok, that's about the price I would be looking to use.
Its been my experience during my rare and brief stays at a Hotel, the TV is only turned on while getting ready to go out and in the mornings to see the News while having breakfast.

    Totally agree with you TVguy.

At around 1400 screens, this is obviously not a small job/investment and 'Hotel Mode' makes a huge difference with setting up/maintaining them to a uniform standard.

I have no idea what buying direct from manufacturers wholesale price for that many is but say 1400 X 27 inch TV's at a rock bottom price of a $100 each hits the bell at $140,000 plus whatever costs are involved is no small investment by any means.
