    Default Mounting a DM500S to a NAS

I would like to do a Mount (so far 400 times/configs unsuccessful) of a NAS Hdd only to a DM500S.
I've got mounts to my PC, no worries there. Can read/Play movies from the NAS. Can record to the NAS. But since there is no actual mount directly to it (at this stage) I need my PC running at all times to access it. Seems to be a bit of a waste if that's the case.
have read numerous posts/threads here in this section, but most (if not all) seem to be mounting 7020 and 6020 to the NAS.
Mine is purely and solely a DM500S.
What like both my units to be able to access the NAS without the PC running.

    Appeciate any help
    Cheers, Saintaholic

you should be able to create a user and password and create a share the same as your pc and give this user permission to this share. Just like your PC. It works fine with my DM500 and Dlink NAS.

Ok, I never thought of it that way. It makes a lot of sense. I'll try hat now!

Well I s'pose I already did have them sharing that way (as I checked). I was getting access to the folder ok. I just wanted to run files directly from the NAS to the DM500 and not have the PC running (My other thread about the mediaplayer)

So, all looks good then with the Nas attached to the DM500S.

    Thanks Leroy

(Now onto the next problem with the mediaplayer)

Now I'm confusing myself! Yes I can access the NAS. Only when the PC is running. That is due now simply to not having a plugin on the DM500S which allows me to search my network.

Is there such a plugin? Or is this what the 'mounting' of a devise (Hdd) to the Dreambox is actually for?

I'm gonna chase something with the mediaplayer first and see if that will solve my drama.

this is what the mounting stuff is! You have a share and user that's created on your NAS (Do this through the NAS setup. You should be able to browse to your NAS with IE) Once you do this then you can mount your share through the communications setup menu on your dreambox and then press the mount button where you then put all your details in like the IP of your NAS, share, user name, pw, etc.

OK, the files on my NAS allow all users to share.

I've deleted all mounts with the DM500 I'm playing with.

    CIFS

My Clent Directory: /media/hdd (have also tried server1)

Sever Directory: tried - DreamBox and movies (that's how they are in drive of NAS)

Remote Host/IP: 192.168.0.5 (IP of my NAS)

Username: Dont have a USERNAME HERE for the NAS
    Password: (of NAS)

Tried a few different ways as above. None worked. The only issue I have would be the username. There isn't one allocated for the NAS. or is it the Drive name EG: NAS

i think the DM requires a username (stupid Linux), it won't work without one.

OK, but I didn't allocate a 'username; for the Nas. I call it a NAS. I've tried that and it didn't work. The official name (alongside the drive) is Ls-lgl808, again I've tried that too.

Do I use /media/hdd . I've read on threads you must use only this to attach a Hdd to a DM500S.
I've also read (from memory) that when you attach a NAS drive you use \ rather than /. Is that true. Either way, neither have given me success.

I'd say you might be incorrect about needing a username/password. I configured successfully a mount to my PC without either.

I'm thinkling it's more in what Leroy has pointed me to. I do have (I think anyway) Shared access to all folders on my NAS.
I'm thinking it's more the 'server directory address and also the IP address. Again I've read a lot that suggests (Only with NAS) you insert a complete IP and Directory. EG: ///Ls-lgl808/share/DreamBox and //192.168.0.5/Ls-lgl808/share/DreamBox

Tried that too and got no-where.
That's why I'm at 'ropeable' level and asking for help. Starting to do stupid things.

    Godzilla

That was my first stop. Worked fine for the PC mount. Didn't for the NAS.
I will read 'Carefully' again and see if I skipped anything, but I'm sure it's pretty basic there.

this is my setup for the dlink NAS

firstly i renamed the unit to nas then

1: i created a user called dream and password was left empty
    2: i created a share called movies
3: i set the share and user with full read and write rights

i set the mount on the dream as

    1: cifs
    2: Directory = movies
    3: Local Directory = /hdd
    4: Option 1 = rw
    5: Option 2 = nolock,rsize=8192,wsize=8192
    6: Automount = yes
    7: Username = dream
    8: password =
9: set the recording on dream as direct file

i then also created a folder called movies inside the share

after you put all that in make sure you save it then reboot the box and check that it did auto mount

    Thanks Fan

Read this post before I started sooking. I can input all except a username for NAS. It never asked for one. Just a Password. I'm searching now to see if I can input one.

    It's a Buffalo LS-LGL808 320gig

The other thing I've noticed, if I change the local directory to an ext the DM500 doesn't have (EG: /hdd or mnt/hdd) it reverts back to /media/hdd

Am I able to 'add' this ext in the DM500 before I try and mount.

I did a quick google and here are some features

    A couple that stand out
    - Has only a single share for the whole drive.
    - Can be configured for a simple password protecting the share (no user administration

So you may not be able to mount the DM500. I'm not a linux boffin so don't the implications of not having username.

thanks glad you like my work (smile).

In short you can mount any type of network device that is shared on a LAN, and the wiki gives three examples that can be used.

Always use CIF first unless the device is a NFS share. Only the 800 & 8000 need a user id and password, so not required for the 500

    Saint,

Your NAS username may be something like "admin" (without the ""). You may have your NAS set up not to ask for it when you look at the NAS via your PC, but it will still be there.

Holy F#@K .......I just mounted it.

    Thanks to Leroys last post

    Here's my result:

    Mounting a NAS 320gig drive via 2 x routers

    Description: Recording

    Filestream Type: 1 CIFS

    Automount: ticked

    Client Directory: /media/hdd

    Server Directory: share

Remote Host Name/IP: 192.168.0.5 (IP of NAS)

    Username:

    Password:

    Options: rsize=8192 wsize=8192

following ticked: rw, nolock, intr, soft, linux ext

    OK, that's done.

Looks like the 'movies' was my main problem. LeroyPatrol pointed out with this NAS it only uses one 'Share' . So I'll bung everything in a folder called 'share'

    Thanks to everyone.

Amazing what a sleep can do.

Just mounted the 'other' DM500s with EXACTLY the same config.

I dont why all this fuss is going on about mounting to a NAS. Too Easy.

When ya know what to do!!!

    Thanks again to everyone!! !!
