Default DM 800 HD PVR + PLI Jade + HDD

    Gentlemen,

I have installed a 320GB on the above combination, but nowhere can I find a way to FORMAT the HDD.

Has anyone succeeded, if so how?

Any info will be greatfully received,

my guess is that its not connected correctly. In the absence of a HD the menu will not be visible as mentioned above. Ensure your data and power cables are connected and you physically hear the HD spin up when you boot the dm800.

Try another image.... I found Nabilosat Blackhole to suit me best... Install pure flash first and it will instal Barry Allen automatically. then install Blackhole to hard disk... If you have a clone, don't use the latest image to flash... Use 11 dec 08... then you can use latest images to hard disk...

No... I am not saying that... just that if Barry Allen does not install, it will tell him that something is wrong with his connections or hard disk....

Sorry but unless I read your post totally wrong you are indeed saying "Try another image" and by inference also referred to as magic it will work, when it does not work now.

Nothing personal at all (and I do apologise if you though this) , but I am sick and tired of reading 'a reflash will fix everything' when in this case it will clearly not.

    Regards,
i found it in menu, setup, system, harddisk, initialisation, then it was listed there

if its not listed then something must be not connected properly somewhere

the drive i have is connected internally, i had to unplug the rear connector to fit the drive inside using the small cables supplied with the receiver

at first it wasnt listed, but after a reboot it was there, which is wierd as it had to boot from scratch after id fitted it?

LOL at least Jade2 sees a HDD, I couldn't get Gemini2 to record even though the drive was recognised in the device manager

the more and more I use these boxes the more I'm convinced they're Germany's latest joke on the world, it's a pity they aren't liable here in Australia to refund the purchase price.

    Gentlemen,

The disk is brand new hence unformatted, as I only use notebooks I have no device to format this SATA drive. When I installed an IDE HDD in a DM600 there was a format option on the DM600.

No such FORMAT option appears in PLi Jade or PLi Jade 2. Someone mentioned previously they did it but no method was described, I am still looking for an answer.

Thank you so far for your guidance,

    Phillip

I put a new HDD in my DM800 this morning. I was unable to use it through Gemini2, and against my better judgement, I put the latest PLi Jade2 on the box - at least Jade2 recognised the drive (my Smargo USB card reader is another problem for another day).

I set the HDD up for use by:

    Menu > Setup > System > Harddisk > Initialization

As these boxes run a version of Limux it doesn't matter that your new HDD isn't formatted, if you can't see the drive though the Jade2 menu then I'd suggest to try and find someone who can attach it to a laptop to at least see if the drive is functional.
