    Default DM500 S or C ??

    Ive been reading a lot and trying to get my head around this with limited spare time.

    I want to share my valid sub upstairs.
    It is cable not satellite, i have seen DM500S and DM500C - which one do i require for server and client in my situation ?

    Are there any updated tutorials for setting up a card share situation ?

    Regards

    Wad

    S = Satellite Decoder
    C = Cable Decoder

    Either way you will need to run a cable or setup a dish to allow it to get pictures. It needs access to a stream to be able to give you pictures.

    If that's what you want to do then yes.

    You can still watch TV from the server as well.

    Most people I knew with cable ended up installing a dish.
    This way you are not touching the providers installation at all.

    Alternative
    -----------
    Another way is to stream it through PC to TV in other room. See if you have a PC hooked to your TV and Network connection you can stream the channel from the other room no need to share or install anything, and no need for another box.

    Only problem is if you want to watch 2 separate channels your better off doing the 2nd box etc.

    Good luck.

    Thanks again for the input mate.
    I do want 2 seperate channels so need the extra box.

    I have a dish installed already (torroidal 90), it is currently on Pas8, C1 & D1 but not being used. Are you saying i can use my sub to get pictures through the dish and share that ? or have i misunderstood what you are saying ?

    I need to read a lot more i think - i appreciate your replies

    Regards

    You need to have a valid sub card. You need to put this card into a dm500 (C if you want to connect to your cable connection or S if you want to connect to your dish). It makes no difference what the card is coming from you can use a cable sub card in a sat dm500.

    Once you have your card working (ie pics) in the dm500 (S or C) you can then begin to setup your box to be a server and a client. This way you can not only run a server but you can also watch pictures at the same time on your server box. You will then need another dm500 in any other room you wish to watch. This second box only needs to be set up as a client and it connects to your server. Once again whether you get a dm500s or dm500c will depend on what you connect to it. If you plan to connect your cable connection then get the dm500c or if you plan to connect your sat dish to it get the dm500s.

    I am also new to this and have only recently set up my system. Its great when it works and really satisfying once you get it working. Best of luck.

    If you have a cable card I would always leave it in a DM500c. If will work in a DM500s but when the card needs an update from the cable network it will miss it unless you have other cable clients connected to update it.

    So use one C and the rest S if you want.

    simply set up your -c box as server Running CCcam (server/client) or Newcs as the server and any client software that is compatible to NewCS.

    Then hook in via your internal network to the -c box from your -s box via the share you set up.

    Easy as.

    Use the C as your server, connected to cable. Then use S as client box connected to sat dish.

    You can use the S, it just has to be connected to the dish not the cable connection.

    You can also record on it, you need to have the network plugged in and mount a network share from your PC.

    Ill get a 500c eventually, ill just experiment with the S at this stage.

    You make a good point tho, might as well have Aurora network on their as well. If the card works in the satellite box then ill use that as the server.

    orange cards work fine you just need to put in your boxkey to get pics. There is a link in this forum to a website that will help you work out your boxkey.
