    Default Dreambox to WME

    Has anyone managed to transcode a stream from the dreambox using windows media encoder?

    I mean without using a capture card. Direct feed into windows media encoder via lan?

    thanks

    Opps encoder .. Yes you can use these wiki pages to help;

    i.
    ii. see the streaming pages.

    Simple process;
    1. mount your PC hdd on your DM box
    2. record from the DM box to the PC hdd
    3. use the DM record file as the WME source file
    4. start streaming

    even with a direct feed from any device MWE will have a min of 6sec delay from live, and the same with this method. The lower your encoding speed the longer the delay from live, so you face a 6sec + encoding speed = total delay / latency.

    Even with flash media encoder the same issues apply in fact any encoder / transcoder will introduce some form of latency.

    a 6 second delay is not a problem.. I thought you were suggesting to record and wait for the record to finish and then the streaming starts.

    But your suggesting that this solution will stream while recording. If it works it would be ok, but not for commercial use (the record file getting large, and when you zap you have to restart recording etc)).

    I found program from DVBLOGIC.COM (DVBLink for Dreambox) but i will play with it tomorrow. It creates virtual tuners in device manager and you can configure each tuner to stream from a dreambox.

    Will post feedback..

    It works fine, being doing it for years, but I take the stream off the DM's hdd (smb / cifs mount) while it is recording rather then put it to a pc hdd. Although it is quicker and easier to use VLC to capture the stream - transcode it and restream it.

    As to the Windows Media center plugin, it works as per the thread on here, but no where near as good.

    Good luck with the project.

    Windows Media Encoder is far more stable then VLC transcoding. (Talkin WMV9 format)

    Btw,

    Have you tested DVBLogic's plugin? I cant get the service to start.. Which DM500 image are you using?

    PLi of course, I am their (PLi) wiki writer and part of the PLi team. You will note from the plugin instructions it only works with PLi and Gemini. If you follow the instructions it works just fine in Vista, but as I use mostly linux these days, it is no good for me.

    As to VLC and windows media player 9 format, it works just fine.

    DVBLogic is designed for Windows Media Center not Windows Media Encoder, right, you do know the difference (silly question I know). VLC is the best thing to use and restream (you will have about this and the links to it on the PLi wiki) is a great addon using an httpd server and PHP, does 100 times more than DVBLogic and windows media center.

    Tell me what you are encoding to (file, web [if web what sort], direct stream etc) with Windows Media Encoder and I will do an example here and post the screen shoots for you.

    I guess it is over the WAN not the LAN as Pli has that already built in and works with most devices on the LAN already.

    lol.. im working on two different projects..

    1. want to stream a live feed from dreambox to WMS (windows media server).
    This can be done buy using the push function in WME(windows media encoder). I tried VLC but it hangs every now and then.. I will try it on a linux pc to see if runs more reliably. If it does not lock up or freezes, this will solve my problem.

    2. I came across DVBLogic while researching, and i think it is an awesome product (if it works lol)..SO i want to get it working so i can install it on Windows Media Centre PCs for some of my clients (who watch FTA channels on dreamboxes).. But so far no luck.. it is still in its early stages and has a lot of bugs.. and no support.. I tried to download the beta but the link is broken.

    Thanks Joncl

    I did all that a few years ago then swapped to another media center but there are a few screen shots still on the wiki like these direct from the DM box without the need for an encoder

    using the DVBLogic plugin

    using your recordings

    writing DM recordings to DVD/CD

    With the Win Media Center dev tools from M$ (you can dload them for free) you can also write your own plugins for the PLi webif, but sorry I no longer have no screen shots of this any more (to old).

    If you are using the Xbox as extenders they already run the webif and TV direct from any DM box (e2 boxes a tad harder, but work any way).

    Food for though.

    That is a worry, so you must have a major issue if the developer of the software can not help you.

    Of course for others to help you need to give some more info (but with me running linux here I can not be of much help on this front) so others can help.
