    Default Another Newbie :P

Hi i have been reading this forum for quite some time and finally decided to register and start getting into this ( hope iam not too late).

    i am thinking of purchasing a dream box ( i guess a dm800HD) or dm8000
unless you guys recommed something else, basically i want to use it to watch and record paytv and would also like the box to act as a card sharing server so i can share it around the house ( obviously i will need to purchase the other boxes as well).

    what do you guys recommend?

i have wireless in the house and also cat5 runs to the two locations i want to place the boxes.

    depends on your budget mate..
on my budget (read non-lotto winner)
    Vu+duo server and dm800 client
    gives you
    - dual tuner at server (record one watch another)
    - server takes big 1tb SATA 3.5" drive
    - runs pli software (stability, support plugins etc)
    - dm800 client networks nicely to vuduo
    - partnerbox means you can set recording on the server from the client

a pair of dm800 would give you almost as much .. but 2.5" drive and single tuner .. and might run a bit hot with the hdd in it

    your mileage may vary
    Dm500, DM5620, DM600 x2, DM7000 x1, DM7020, DM7025, DM800, VU+DUO and a partridge in a pear tree

You can buy USB TV tuners that work with the Vu+ Duo. It worked ok for what is was but I find a proper integrated tuner better. YMMV

    Thank you Leroy,

its not a big problem i guess as i have a computer sitting under my tv doing the recording for free to air channels and it works very well. having a device that does everything just means i can tidy the living room up a little more..

does the dm8000 have the required inputs?

i work in IT and i prefer integrated devices as it just makes devices easier to use for people that dont know how to tinker and fix things..

I think the DM8000 comes std with twin sat tuners and then there are 2 free slots for DVB-T or DVB-C tuners. Their only drawback is they are expensive ($1500ish?) hence the popularity of the Vu+ Du.

    Leroy is spot on

if you got the cash .. go for dm8000 with 2 x sat and 1 by DVB-T tuner
VU+duo with USB DVB-T tuner - kind of works for some - not ideal operation just yet
