    Default What is Dreambox

I have had a pretty decent search on the internet, and these forums however I cannot seem to find any beginners information on what is dreambox and its capabilities, applicable to Australia.

I know a few people that have a Dreambox and have a number pay tv services on them such as Foxtel (rightfully or wrongfully). It seems interesting and something I would not mind setting up for myself.

Is foxtel amongst other channel streams something that can be watched on this dreambox, and is there a learn how to and/or what is dream box?

Appreciate the help, and apologies for any inconvinience I have caused if I am asking a question that is has been answered before?

    Cheers,

Google Klona's dreambox guide and that will give you a start.

Did so, and will read in detail tonight. Thankyou for that direction.

It mentions that once you have set it up you can configure a whole list of channels including from what I can see is foxsports, mtv, etc.

Are these available to anyone once the hardware is set up, or do you need some sort of decoding software/hardware?

Is this hardware the best hardware for this?

Once again, really appreciate your help.

You need a valid Foxtel subscription card.

You know when you purchase Foxtel how they give you a receiver box? In the front of that receiver box is a little card. You can take that card out and place it into a Dreambox instead.

So, a Dreambox is just an alternative receiver box to use instead of the standard ones Foxtel supply (Standard/IQ/IQ2, etc.).

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that doing this will breach the terms and conditions of your Foxtel subscription.

I couldnt help you with that one.

I suppose they would make up alot of money on the hire of these boxes every month, but then again (playing devils advocate), unless they actually came out, how would they know?

well you can get all the fta channels from all the eastern states. There might be the odd channel that gets opened up as well that wouldn't be available to the supplied foxtel box

You might want to share that card to another *cough* dreambox or similar receiver.

I'd like to add that you also need a bit of tenacity and some technical knowledge to get it going. The technical knowledge can be learned from the many postings / articles / and smart people on this and other forums that help you along. Some things you try might be easy, some frustrating, but it is a good hobby with outcomes in the home for all.
