Look Here -> |
just had a look at all those threads in there none on the question i posted on here!!!does anyone know i really could use a heads up on this?
Too be honest I wouldn't have a clue but if I think about it in what I consider to be a logical manner wouldn't it just be a matter of getting a DM500 cable version box and set a C line pointing to your little group.
It seems to me that Satellite clients essentially get pictures off the satellite but the decryption of those pictures is provided by your server via the internet.
That being the case it seems logical to me that with a cable client the same would prevail, the DM500c would get the pictures off the cable but the decryption would still come via the internet.
The only downside to this is I feel that the cable system is essentially a closed loop system so it seems plausible that the providers may well be able to tell that your cable client is circumventing the system simply by the load on the system.
Please, this is opinion only, I may well have not thought this through well enough
Makes no difference. Get him a DM500 for SD, DM800 for HD.
so your saying it can be done lomax if i get him a dm800c HD?? its looking more and more likely that ive got to get him to put up a satellite!!!

Dishes don't cost much. Look for a second had foxtel/austar dish on ebay that comes with a eves braket lnb etc together. Optus c1 is relatively easy to find. I'm not up with cable but there may not be a connection to the street or the joiner/isolator might have been removed.

Yes, he'll definitely require a satellite dish/10700 LNB installation and cabling to an outlet.
Providing the dish is still in good condition, eg: no dings or distortion, a used one is fine.
Just be aware of the physical condition of the LNB and it must be a 10700 LO model.
A new LNB should be less than $20 anyway.
It will work fine, only draw back with Cable, interstate (MELB, QLD same stuff only delayed) commercial channel will not work.
Use what ever *cable* box you like - DM500, DM800, etc. Just set it up like you would any other sat client, except for tuning:
Blue Button->Satelites and Transponders->Manual Scan
Frequency: 0666
Inv: Yes
Modulation: QAM-64
FEC: Auto
Symbol Rate: 6950
Use Bat: Yes
Network Search: Yes
I'm assuming that you have verified that his cable is "lit-up".
F*xtel just pump the sat feed straight into the cable network and, except for the interstate FTA channels as mentioned by boggo007, everything's the same.
