Default Quailty of signal different in 2 boxes WHY??

    hi all,

    i have a dreambox 500s and a mediastar DX-602.

when i plug in the mediastar DX-602 and plug the 65cm dish i have set to intelsat 8 it gives me Quality 88% and the channels work fine

now the problem ok, i unplug the the mediastar box and plug the in the dreambox, the same settings but the Quality is 75% and less. and the channels are no good.

why is it doing this ??

    how do i fix this

    regards

yeh i've checked them twice, i'm trying to use the dreambox for mysat and the settings for both are exactly the same why is it doing this, also i cannot seem to get more than 88% on the mediastar why is that, can it be due to the type of connectors i used ??

    any ideas please

You could also have 10 decoders of the same make & model and chances are they will all give you different signal readings.

This is because the signal meauring circuitry is designed to provide a very rough guide, only.

If readings were accurate, the decoders would cost thousands of $ more.

The important thing is that you have sufficient signal quality, which is more important than just signal strength.

Careful fine adjustment of the dish and in particular, LNB skew will affect signal quality, so you may need to check on those areas.

I'm curious by what you mean about the 'type of connectors' you used..... which are?

How are your decoders connected, one single cable from the LNB and you swap that cable from one box to another, or do you have them connected some other way?

yes i'm swaping the cabole over but before that it is going to a diseqc switch as i have 2 satellites, in regards to the connectors i mean the cheapo one the crimp ones and the compression one (foxtel connectors), ive tried both the lnb skew and the elevations etc but signal quality did not even nudge,

    i'm using a 10700 lnb should i use a 11300 one or the 10700 is better.

    thanks

Crimp and compression connectors are best.

The LNB LO frequency choice depends on what the transponder frequencies are that you wish to receive. Some transponders used these days can only be received with a 10700 (or universal) LNB but the 10700 LNB you have now should be OK.

I suspect you have a setting issue in the Dreambox... perhaps diseqc, as a 75% quality reading should be more than sufficient for a signal lock.
