    Default DM blindscan

Not sure if any of you guys have looked into this but you can download something named dreambox-blindscan-utils.
I have done so on a DM800 and my Vu but for the life of me don't know what to do with it.
Done some googling and it seems mainly for DM800's but sofar haven't found any explanations yet.
Can anyone fill me in on how to use it (activate it)?

the main problem is that these receivers dont have the necessary hardware for true blindscan capabilities.

Yep, I've heard that mentioned before. But is that really true?
I would have thought that it's more likely software that tells the tuner to scan at certain increments?

it's a mix of both, while you are correct in saying the tuner controlled by software, which tells it what to scan etc, these receivers also do not contain the correct hardware. for example they can not decode any of the 4.2.2 feeds.

There is software blindscan and there is hardware. Software tends to be very slow at doing this where as hardware has dedicated 'hardware' (chips etc) that are used for this function. Obviously software would call this hardware when required.
You may remember the earlier Azboxes that promoted blindscan. Well they never released the firmware because the software scan was like 45 minutes for one satellite and this is how slow the dreambox probably would be as all frequency/symbol rates/fec etc would have to be addressed manuall˙ though software. Then throw HD in on top of that and it would take a lot longer.
Receivers like the the UltraPlus etc are very quick and take a matter of a few minutes hence my fondness of them.
4:2:2 is another ball game and from what I can gather requires more hardware to support this. This is something the Azbox can do. Others you can record the stream then decode with video redo if keen to seen what the transmission is or with a dreambox you can stream to a pc.
