    Default Tuning Austar on DM500HD

    Hi All,
I am currently battling with my Dreambox trying to tune into Austar using my subscription. I have put my card in the front of the unit, setup the Optus C1 satellite, however that is as far as I can get, no matter what type of scan I try I can't find any channels for Austar. I get a few that I can't tune into (just get a blank screen when I try) when doing a manual scan on the Austar frequence (12305), if I do an auto scan I get 5 DAL channels and then again, a bunch of channels I can't tune into.

I have exhausted google trying to find help on this topic.

    Thanks
    mtg

There are plenty of Dreambox experts here (I'm not one of them) but it's my understanding only some Foxtel cards work in in the Dreambox... not Austar cards.

    Others can advise better.

Both Austar and Foxtel have most channels on Optus D3, which is co-located with C1 but transponder frequencies are different.

You need either a 10700 or universal LNB to receive D3 frequencies.

If the channels are on D3 then I would assume I already have what is needed to receive it as Austar installed my dish and it works with their crappy composite thing.

When you do a scan on 12305 you should find at least 200+ channels. Make sure you have NIT (Netowork) enabled.
If you don't, check your LNB settings. I'm guessing you should have a 10700 LNB if your current Austar receiver is working fine.

I can't actually find where to enable NIT in the setup. Can someone confirm whether Austar broadcasts from Optus C1 or Optus D3 as you can see in these listing they are both different frequencies.

    Thanks

The sats are colocated! Think of them as one.

Ah cool, however, which frequency should I be scanning, as an auto scan fails. Is there something special I need to do to get it to recognise that it needs to use the card in the card slot to decode the channels or whether the dreambox just knows. I am using the DreamElite image, as I have heard this is one of the better images.

    Thanks

Using your Austar stb and remote, put the stb on ch 101, press ACTIVE, press Setup, press instalation, press Dish, press signal detection and after all that it will show you the frequency of that transponder, ie 12177.00 MHZ.
Although it doesnt show it I am presuming it is Horizontal, maybe Lyngsat will have that and the S/R and FEC.
Another way to get these details would be to do a reset or poweroff and record the start up screen unless your a fast writer.
I have the Titan stb but I would think the others except Mystar/MystarHD should do the same.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

I think he's got them scanned in just not getting pictures as he hasn't setup a oscam server with tweak keys or IRserver, thats why he dosn't have pictures.

I actually can't get them scanned in, the limited channels (only every about 15) that I can find never have pictures, I was trying to get the channels listed before worrying about that.

I have tried finding the frequency on the Austar box however what frequency of 12558 according to LyngSat is a Foxtel frequency and when trying to use Satfinder I get no SNR but is it occasionally spikes up a little using the manual scan on this frequency with the settings (according to LyngSat) sound nothing for me.

Thanks for the help so far

Also in regards to Oscam, my understand is that is if I want to use a PC to read the card, however I wish to use the internal card reader, is there something different for this?

A manual can on the freq quoted in post #4 will do the trick but I don't think your LNB settings are correct.

It is probably unlikely that this is the issue if you are scanning in some channels but check that LNB is set to Non-standard user defined.
If not you will have to input your LNB's local oscillator freq in all three fields, it will be either 10700 or 11300.

I'd also check your satellites.xml to see if it is complete.

Do you have Network Scan enabled? This should automatically find all transponders for you, no matter which one you start on.

Hi Guy, Attached is my satellites.xml and screen shots of the tuner settings (I have tried both 11300 and 10700 for LOF).

    Thanks

You won't get the D3 transponders with an 11300 LNB

ok, have changed that back to 10700. In the meantime can anyone see anything else that should be changed?

The point I am making is that you must have a 10700 (or universal) LNB and set the decoder LNB setting to match the LNB used.

If you have an 11300 LNB you will not locate the D3 transponders, regardless if you have the decoder set to 11300.

Can you confirm which LO LNB you have on your dish?

Without getting up to look I could not tell you, it was an Austar installed dish and LNB, so I would assume that it would have to be a 10700 LNB, as otherwise they would be installing a dish that wouldn't work with their service. I am also assuming that a universal LNB is more expensive, therefore they wouldn't be paying more for it than they have to.

When you tuned to 12305, did you find the Austar Help Channel. If not, you must have the wrong LNB setting.
