Default DM500s, original or clones, any difference?

    Hi folks
i am looking at getting one or maybe two DM500s for cs my nds card around the house.
are there any differences between the originals and the clones.
ie: any pitfalls i should look out for or are they as good as each other in performance, operation and functionallity.

any response is greatly appreciated and i am sure this was probably well asnwered in all the old threads.

    cheers lee

Personally I have had no issue with clones @ a fraction of the cost.

I have seen "differing" build quality between different clone DM500s... The better model of the 500's have the Satellite tuner in-line with the RCA connectors for the Composite out. The ones I have had problems with the Ethernet interface have the Satellite tuner in-line with the RS232 connector.

There was a post on the old forum about "how to spot a good quality or poor quality clone".

Another way is to open the box and see if it says "Rev 8" or something similar on the mainboard. The Poorer quality ones say Rev 5. You can also see this in the On Screen Display under info where it should tell you the board rev. The good ones say Rev 7. The bad ones say Rev 5.

So far the ones I have brought in which are in-line with the RCA Composite connectors and have not had a problem with them.

The poor quality ones I have just had problems with streaming, but I have read others have had problems with LNB's not being properly Powered by the tuner, and other problems. The best way is to try and record over a samba mount, if it turns up as a corrupted recording then you probably have a dud.

But if you buy off eBay then I would hope that the seller makes sure you are happy, otherwise you would give bad feedback!

Buy a clone 500 or have nothing.

Dream do not make 500s units anymore.

    Clones are the only option.

its part of the Enigma menu - use your remote to navigate through the menus. Im at work now and cant remember wehere exactly, buts its there. Saves you having to mess with the config file each time.

Some clones have simple fixes just removing a couple of Caps will fix the audio lip sync , but if you do the mod on other motherboards, you may end up with no-colour and have to resolder the SMD Caps.

Just do the fast zapping fix.. it is less painfull.

Can you link me to the fixes. For me removing SMD's is like playing with Duplo.

I spent about 5 times more looking over the menu's than I did editing the file. I remember seeing it in the old Gemini image I have but I am not using PLi.

Not or Now? Anyway here is the PLi solution

PLi - pre the Helenite release - MENU|SETUP|EXPERT SETUP and then scroll down

PLi Helenite / Iolite - MENU|SETUP|User Interface Settings| OSD Options - look to the top right of your screen
