| Junior Member | I've noticed kerb side optical sensors that obviously detect speed through time measurement across the road and a cylindrical pole approximately 1.8 mtrs hiigh with 3 dark perspex areas which may take photos of each lane. There is also a grey box next the pole which would house all of the electronics for the camera. The camera is situated between Croydon Rd and Exeter Rd on Maroondah Hwy Croydon Nth heading east bound. There is a sign thats indicates speed camera in testing. This is nothing like the cameras you would see at traffic lights etc. I will try to get pics in the next couple of days. |

![]() | Thanks for the info Krustyone Or some paint, see how long it lasts. With the 3 rows of perspex running 360 degrees it almost looks like a housing for some panning cameras. I used to love that corner along there on my bike at 3am. How is the speed camera opposite mooroolbark fire station, how long did that last. lmao

![]() | IThat pole looks rectangle. For safety reasons they are made to snap rather than total cars. Like those big light poles, made to disintegrate when you hit them.

| Senior Member | The camera ,if thats what they are look like stackable units . Use as many as you want just stack one on top of the other. The camera modules seem to have a door opening which is covered by the tinted perspex. Suppose to hide which way they are fiming but I don't see why , with three cameras they can film both ways and watch themselves for concrete bag toting bodies kicking along plastic bags. The speed timing would seem to be done by the ground cutouts although it could just be a family of new gophers moving into a vacant opportunity for rodent low rise. Looks a bit like something the Pharoes would build ,in shape. Solar powered to a battery bank somewhere ,probably the box. Dont see that the woodwork would make them snap more easily, maybe , or perhaps more to come? Put in once installed to get the right height |

agreed mr electricity, anyone snapped in NSW should not only be fined, they should loose their license and be publicly stoned to death for being an oxygen thief. for those who dont know here in NSW they warn you when heading for a fixed speed cammera for hundreds of metres before you get there, sometimes with flashing lights for gods sake, so if you dont heed that lot then you've only yourself to blame!

| Senior Member | I often wonder now if they have a camera on the speed cameras for just such a reason? But if it wasn't a close quarters attack... they'd be out of luck anyway. I used to laugh at the cameras hanging on the over passes of the Geelong - Melbourne road when heaps of the Melb bound ones had been shot with a riffle ![]() "Nice Shooting Tex" I would hate to see the fine you would get though..... I remember i "accidently" drove with 2 wheels in the loose stone road edge as i passed a camera car at 7am on one of our country roads, stones bounced off the camera car as i passed it from behind... It's camera and flash also went off. Lucky i was driving within the speed limit ![]() |

| Senior Member | When i got home, i asked the local cop about it. He said there were massive fines set out to protect these private operaters from attack. As i'm sure some bricky on the way from a hard day has doubled back and grabbed the operater by the throat before after he was flashed. So it maye be a case of both z80 (Police Fine and further Civil Action) I would be interested to know what Technology is being used in those poles.... as i doubt it is going to be the old K Band. Can anyone tell me the % of real working cameras to the total claimed. I've even seen dummy cutouts, makes you blase, 'til you find the real McCoy. Many years ago, Canberra had a beatup ute with a 44 and drum pump on the road to the Snow. They also had a Daimler for the same task. I always thought "Entrapment" could not be used. Try walking into a Bank with a toy pistol !!!!!!!! Kindest Regards........... ![]() | |

| Senior Member | The speed cameras in Canberra are K band. If you have a radar detector, the will trip them, but only after you've passed the camera. The red light cameras are anphometer based for their speed detection. In NSW there is a speed sensor like this one on the F3 at Mt Kuring Gai. It not for issuing fines, but rather for determining the speed of traffic coming into Sydney. If you're looking for it, it's about 100m before the pedestrian footbridge on the southbound side. The Speed camera on Pennant Hills Rd at Burnside near Parramatta was another camera that the RTA was conducting experiments with. It had a K-band radar on it as well as the piezo sensors. The last time I took the detector past it, there was no alert, so they may have removed the dopler radar. |
