    Default Power Surge Damage

So we had few power outages last week, pretty much everytime it rained, power went out.

Well long story short, power surge damaged couple of electronic items at home and now I need someone to verify that the items were damaged by power surge.

Anyone here wanna do it ?

I am in Ringwood - Vic

How would you test for damage caused by a surge or even a lightning strike come to that matter unless there are very visible signs of damage and a burnt plastic smell.
It was working and now it isnt.
Would I be wrong in thinking there is no chance in Hell of the Electricity Supplier admitting to any fluctuations unless its absolutely impossible to ignore like a transformer blowing up or a power line being knocked down because of an accident etc and your aware of others having similar damage done to their appliances.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

ask the company for a letter as to when the dates of power surges were, as u want to claim on your insurance company.

when they send you the letter, which they will, you send them a letter of demand, which they have admitted to the surges.

    worked for me

When I used to repair TV's VCR's etc I often got stuff in that was reportedly caused by surges or spikes etc, with the customer wanting a report for insurance claims. Most of the time it was pretty well impossible to say what caused the fault and all you can do is is give them a letter saying that it is "possible" that the fault was caused by a surge or spike. Most of the "lightning strike to antenna" faults were easy to verify though especially where the components had been vaporised from the board, or where the tuner module was left as a melted metal blob.

Normolly surges or spikes in the mains power you will see the main 400v electro bent out of shape top off ext the bridge rec s/c and god nos what on the secondary side, on modern sets the is a posister across the main supply that short if voltadge go over 300v and just take out the main fuse ( lol in practice not allways you find the posister blown appart)

Sorry for late reply, I thought no one even checked this thread.

Basically for about 2 weeks, we had power outages, like 4-5 times every night and 4-5 times during the day.

Couple of things simply refuse to switch on and all of these are electronic items that are very sensitive to power fluctuations ie. Desktop, laptop, plasma xbox and router. Except tele everything else was connected to router via Ethernet cable and router is the only one smelling burnt.

If not power surge then I think I have a ghost as all of these were plugged in when I went to sleep and refuse to work the next day, lol

I have given the items to local repair guys and they are going to give me reports on monday. Will fax them to power company on tuesday.

I spoke to couple of a guy who had her 5K computer replaced couple months back, according to him it was pretty easy, just get the report from repair guys and pass it onto the power company with there forms filled in.
