Default LG 42 inch Plasma MT-42PZ41V issues

    Hi Every One,

I am a new member & would seek some help from senior members. Before I start describing the problem with my TV, let me tell you that I am a computer repairer so have a bit of electronics knowledge but don't really know much about Plasma as such so pls bear with me if I ask dumb questions.

I have this more than 5 year old plasma which never missed a beat but for last couple of months, it started displaying wierd colours on top left hand corners. It used to be excess Green or Blue in top left hand corner which initially started when we turned on the TV & would go away after some time. It was intermittent & did not create a big problem with the viewing so we let it go. Internally, I had this feeling that one of the componants (probably a capacitor) is going to die but I was too lazy to do any thing. TV was wall mounted which was another deterrant for me as I could not open it up easily.

So last week, it finally gave up. There was a bit of burning smell & TV turned off so we turned it off from mains & left it like that until next morning when I pulled it apart. When I looked inside, I noticed 2 big 250 volts & one small bulging capacitors on YSUS board so I immidiately too the board out contacted few vendors who supply LG parts with YSUS board model no (which is 6870QYE004F) & was told that this model is no longer available. So I looked for Capacitors & luckily found some. I replaced these capacitor & put the board back. TV turns on with the standby light on (red). I pressed the input switch, it turns green & than after few seconds turns red after a click.

I have looked closely & don't see any other physical damage on a component & have run out of ideas. Would appreciate your inputs pls.

    With Regards

I think those models were a 3 board replacement - not worth it these days with the price of new 42".

    I'm guessing it's a 3 board job. I think about $250, not sure...

    Someone else might chime in

Thanks GT250, when I look inside, it does have 3 boards but not sure if all 3 have to be replaced. You may be right that it is not worth it, if I have to replace all 3. Many thanks for your inputs. I'll wait to hear from others.

    Best Regards

2003 build, 852 x 480 resolution, 350 watts typical power consumption, only a monitor, and every single part No Longer Available = Time to move on and update.

Thanks TVguy, what you said makes sense. I'll probably go for a lower power consumption LED model now. Is there a specific one you would recommend? I am looking at spending around $800-$1000 mark & would prefer something bigger than my 42inch. Some people have recommended Samsung but I have heard about too many burst capacitor issues with Samsung so not sure.

    Best Regards

Bugger the brand, look for one with the longest and cheapest warranty available as your finding, once their past the warranty or say 3 years old, the replacement price is cheaper than repairs IF you can find anyone to consider repairing it.
People laugh but Aldi has a 50 inch LCD for $599, not sure how long the warranty is on that one.
I have a similar one from them, it got a power surge late last year and they came and took it away for repair and returned it when done.
From a reply of a Forum Member who was a TV repairer, I am gaining the impression that if there was no warranty on TV's, that side of the electronics industry would disappear.

Default Trying to resurrect my MT-42PZ41V

Having a problem with noise across the screen approx 50Hz. Suspect noise filter. IF-06A2-W.

Is there a replacement for these as the only ones I could see on line were 2nd hand from USA.

I know its an old TV just need it to keep me going on a treadmill!
