Default Android media player video output issues

    Hi,

I have an android network media player. I have accidentally changed some of the video settings and cannot get it to come back up anymore. Hdmi output doesn't work at all. Av output only shows boot logo then disappears and nothing. Is there anyway I can factory reset these devices? Opened it up and cannot find any reset buttons.

    Thanks in advance.

    Turcan

Would help a great deal to mention the name the device.
If it is from DGTEC, pressing the Format button a few times on the remote until it shows something might help.

No brand name on this device - just called a Android Network Media Player - small black box with Android picture. There is no format button on the remote. I can get it the boot logo to come up using the composite output but it disappears and nothing comes up.

    thanks

Thanks for the reply - It has the same chipset but I there is no button on it anywhere. Pretty sure the two USB connections are for inputs from storage devices rather than connection to flash the device.

    Thanks

If it does not have a J-tag connector the USB connection will be the only way to access the device or to get updates on it.
Even without a reset button showing, a connection to the PC might at least show that Windows is trying to access it, if there is some unknown hardware showing in the device manager you know there might be a good chance to get the damn thing going again.
Only other option I see is to get information from the manufatorr, but since Neewer is only the brand name for a big online store it might be impossible unless you are fluent in Chinese.

Being a burnt child I tend to check if support and firmwares are offered for stuff that might need it, before I decide to buy.
Noname Chinaware is a good thing to save a lot of money but quite too often turns out to be more expensive in the long run as updates or even spare parts might be impossible to get.
China hardware is a throw.away-design, meaning a product has passed it's lifetime and support once the production has stopped.
A few companies already think differently but you can count them without using a calculator...
If you can't get help from the seller/company than you have nothing to loose anyway - if the chipset matches and maybe even the internal memory use a firmware that is available and check if your device accepts it.
If worse comes to worse you will still have a "bricked" player that is still useless for you.
But wait a whle and see if someone else here might have a more suitable solution at hand first!

Thanks Downunder - point taken. Investigating further I have discovered it has an A20 Chip and it is flashed via the SD Card slot. I downloaded an image I found online (JUSTOP) but couldn't format the SD card I had lying around with the PhoenixCard program supplied (came up with "Card Preprocess Failed! 1034). I will try another SD Card tomorrow and see how I go.

    Thanks

Maybe it is worth trying to reformat using the SD fomatter from SDCARD.ORG
They define the standards and their tool get's any SD back to the original specs as they are formatted using the internal parameters instead of the Windows defaults.

Don't think that will help as the phoenixCard program formats the SD card again - that's where it is failing. I am using a mini SD with an adaptor so maybe if I find a normal SD card it might work. Will let you know how I go.

    thanks

    hi Turcan

I have exactly the same problem actually, I had a no-name android tv box. I think the problem happened after I changed the setting for Force 4x msaa (dev options) as I was troubleshooting a graphics issue. I am not sure if the phoenixCard is working properly with the SD Card Reader I have and I have read on the forums that when people try another SD Card reader eg USB one that it works. Did you get this to work in the end?

hi Turcan were you able to fix the problem not using the mini SD in the adaptor, I am having the same error, and also seem to have the same device as yourself being an A20 no-name brand android TV. I think the problem happened after I changed the setting for Force 4x msaa (dev options) as I was troubleshooting a graphics issue. I have some other posts where someone was successful when they tried using an external USB SD Reader, so it may be having an issue with the SD card reader itself, let me know if you have had any luck.

The standards between SD, mini SD and Micro SD are just the size and form factor.
If you change an Android system that has no fall back in case of failure you are basically lost.
The biggest problem with no-name-media-players is simply that once you changed something that affects the output and you don't see it on the screen, you can no longer access anything.
Most of them now use flash memory, so even if you disconnect it and leave it for days it won't revert back to factory defaults.
Only chance would be to use the settings but if you cant get them on the screen you are lost again.
Some players offer a remote that can be misused to do a factory reset, searching Google for the model will help if there is any info.
Android does not offer any system restor or fall back procedures unless specified in the bootloader, if you don't have any keys on the device and the remote does not support boot into recovery mode there will be little you can try....

    Guys,

Just to let you know I tried using the SD Card software with no luck. I have put this aside and will come back to it when I have time - not on my high priority list at the moment.

    thanks for all your help
