Default headphones for use on airplanes

    hi guys
my neighbour bought a new Sony noise cancelling headphone set , for use on long plane journeys . they terminate onto a stereo plug , 2.5mm i think .
the airplane plug adaptor that Sony supplied came with one standard mono plug , and a foldable stereo plug , both on the same block , and spaced apart enough that they will fit into the aircraft sound sockets .

she said that they only worked in one headset , the other was quite scratchy .

i didnt think that Sony adaptor was correct so i bought an adaptor from Jaycar , and it has twin mono plugs which go into the aircraft sockets .

can anyone confirm which adaptor is correct ? the twin monos or the mono / stereo combination ?

I had a few of them and so far the only worked perfectly was a single block that had two stereo pins on one end and a stero 3.5mm socket on the other end.
The mono ones either had one channel missing or distortions on one channel, I suspect it has something to do how they wire the stuff.
Ususally the doble mono plugs are recommended as it is the standard in the planes.
When I go on a long flight I have my noice cancelling headphones and two adapters, one with mono and one with stereo pins so one must work.
Also had a fligh heaset with noise cancellation that came with a plug for the plane and this worked fine until I placed my fat bum on it and broke the whole thing holding the speakers together.

thanks for that . after further testing it seems that the headphones themselves are faulty . i put a new battery in and all i get is bad feedback/squeal from the right side.
so back to Sony for the unit. bit of worry she paid over $200 for them.
