    Default Which Harmony remote?

I'm considering of buying a Harmony Remote for more ease and just in case I ever need to access the service menu on my late model wireless tv's after warranty expires.
What do you think about this Harmony model from ebay (Logitech Harmony 700 Advance Universal Remote Control) Or do you recommend another that's not to expensive.

    Thanks

I bought one from JB HiFi for $12, it is fully programable via USB and uses the internet to gather information about the products you wish to control.
    Was very impressed with it.

Its the cheapest of them all, the Harmony 200.
So i imagine any model above it will be even better

I bought mine for a European LCD TV i was given that didn't come with a remote, its codes were rare, and were not available on the other multi use remotes i had.
The Logitech Harmony and its vast library had this obscure TV in their online list.
The process was simple, easy and fast.

Friends own the 700 you mention, you can ad custom channel logos etc....

    Thanks for the info.
I like the idea of pressing one button and switching all ready devices on to watch a movie. Also the fact that you can communicate with your smart tv to activate the password box to enter the service menu

Yes, the macro funtcion works well.

"Watch TV" button on mine.... one press and it turns on what ever you've programmed it to
Not only does it turn 3 appliances on, it also changes internal settings to what you tell it too.

IE: TV on and switched to HDMI1 / Receiver turned on and set to Sat TV, 7 Channel Stereo, Vu Ultimo switched on and to the channel you have nominated.

Not bad for $12 Free Delivery
Good Ego's too, much like to old DM7000 remotes the way they balance and seat in your fingers for easy thumb access to most buttons.

For Xmas my oldest Son gave me a Phillips Prestigo Universal Remote Control and I 'attempted' to set it up.............
Like its predecessors it is now residing along side them as a tribute to Man's Ingenuity in making devices smarter than the user.
I am quite willing to admit this remote is smarter than me and I will be forever restricted to having a plethora of individual remotes unless on day one is invented that it will do all I want by me simply looking at it.

Even then I doubt my Brain would be of a high enough order to communicate with such a device unless its 'Backward Compatible' with early Troglodyte !!!

I have the Harmony 650 which looks the same as the 700, maybe it's an upgrade on mine which I have had for a few years. It's fantastic, does every function of the original remotes it replaced.
I use rechargeable/alkaline batteries in mine, I guess because it gets more of a workout than the standard remotes it uses the batteries a little more than your average remote.
I would buy another one tomorrow if I had to, great units.

Same, good bang for buck model. I know I have said it before, but you are simply wasting your money buying any other brand universal remote. I should know, I have a draw full of them

I have a 600 ( not sure that they do them now )and bought a 650 from Office Works for my son in law. The only difference seems to be that the 650 because of the colour screen, you need to replace the batteries more often. The limitation is that it can only control up to 5 units. More expensive ones do not have this limitation.
Previously had a 550 which was better but the down button stopped working after a few years of heavy use.

The guys on AVS swear by them. There are hundreds of pages regarding these Harmony remotes and what they use them for.

Nothing beats Harmony remotes. The price tag gives you some different features but the main thing is they use Logitech database for devices. It will be very hard to find a device which is not in the database, but even then you can use remote learning function.
I bought 600 and will buy another Harmony without any hesitation.

Well I releaved ebay of one of these Logitech Harmony 700 remotes yesterday. I'll sit down later and write a draft list on what turns on with who. I will pick a good category name for each "eg" Category 1/Movies::: Hecto laser projector, on HDMI 2, A/Oppo 103D, B/Onkyo processor, C/ Yahama sub woofer amp. Category 2/ Free to Air::: Hecto Laser projector, on HDMI 1, A/ HD Video HDMI Switcher, B / LG Blu-ray PVR recorder, (HDMI switcher also has two other blu-ray players connected to it. This will do for this cat for the moment). Category3/ Satellite::: Hecto Laser projector, on HDMI 3, A/ Another HD HDMI Switcher, B/ AZBox, (shit I have a mile of boxes and combo's How good and smart are these Harmony Remotes.
You know to have a near perfect system now I wonder does anyone sell a 240V controller that can be controlled by the Harmony remote so when I press any of my three categories I have another gadget that switches the 240V on for me, HeHeHeHe!! Maybe i'm getting greedy here. Guys I have one hell of a complicated TV room. I will see how smart these Harmony remotes are. No doubt I will have to get my family involved in this as I've had some brain fades lately.
He is a part pic of our family main tv room during my refit I have two 2.2M cabinets full of goodies either side of the Hecto. I also have good second security system for the tv room on top of the main one used by the house.

The story of my life, I always seem to buy things that others don't seem to own or don't know they exist. Logitech Harmony remotes have over 200,000 devices in their data base but have never heard of the Hecto Laser display. To throw a spanner in the Works the Hecto Laser projector is the only device on this planet that does not have a series or any number to identify it and Logitech don't believe me when I rang them. I Have sent them links world wide the Hecto is Known as Hecto GL (AAULLA for Aus) and thats it.
The AAULLA bit seems to be on a lot of LG TV's or projection tv's for Australia.
Its a waist of time trying to set the Harmony Remote manually as options for this don't suit the Hecto as the Hecto does not have a DVB T2 tuner in it so how can you change channel with it considering I have to use an external PVR via HDMI to do this.

Well I got the Harmony 700 away but sorry to say ITS USELESS for my installation (its a hit and miss scenario). See most today have a TV (average say 60 inch) in the middle of a Lounge room wall and most have a cabinet with receivers/amps/blu-ray players around 1M either side of their display or under it so when you roughly aim the Harmony Remote at your equipment the Harmony does its job (devices close together) but at our house we have a wall with the Hecto in the middle with large cabinets either side that distances close to 8M long from one end to another (yes cabinets, Hecto reasonable compressed) so if I aim in the middle to hit the Hecto which it does it grabs the Oppo in the process (about 1.8M away) but misses the Onkyo as its too far away to the Left.
If I aim between (middle)the Oppo and the Onkyo sound processor they come on but the Hecto misses out and forget anything on the right hand side cabinet as I would have cooee's chance of firing anything up in that Satellite Equipment only cabinet if I aiming to the Left hand side of the TV room. Unfortunately the room was not designed to suit a Harmony remote and even if I did some devices would still miss out.
What I have notice is that all Receivers/Sat-Decoders/blu-ray players/amps/HDMI Switchers/PVR's all have a different level of sensitivity and its just my luck that the Onkyo Sound amp has the weakest ir receiver and at the other end of the stick the Oppo has the strongest receiver as I just about can hide the Harmony remote and manually select the Oppo and switch it on and off.
I am using three Activities in the Harmony. 1/ Hecto Movie time HIMI 2 for all blu-ray viewing (3 devices) 2/ Hecto FTA HDMI 1(Have not done yet) will have 3 devices. 3/ Hecto Satellite HDMI 3 will have 2 devices since the 700 has a max of only 8 devices.

With activity 2 and 3 I might get away with it as the equipment is more bunched up.

Question!!! Many moons ago I knew a guy with a nightmare setup like ours and he was using some fibre optic/ electric whatever set up to receive the signal for a given device from a different direction and send the signal back to the hidden device. See mainly its my Onkyo that is the fish out of the water and I will not move it as it has a mile of speaker cables and including HDMI ones plus the Onkyo cabinet is sealed with a special cooling system and I'm not moving that.
Any clues guys what and where to buy some thing that can receive the signal roughly from the middle of our tv room and send it 3.5M away to the left and hit the eye of the Onkyo IR.

    Thanks

You need a wireless remote control extender such as the one at . Dick Smith, Jaycar and others sell similar units.

Install the transmitter in the area where you intend to aim the remote control and the receiver near the Hecto (or Onyko, whatever) unit. Attach the little IR emitter (in the top RH corner of picture) to the Hecto/Onkyo/whatever's front panel near its IR detector. (You might need to experiment a little with placement).

    This is how it works...

The IR transmitter picks up the beam from your remote control and transmits the information to its companion receiver. This in turn makes its attached IR LED emitter reproduce the code sequence from your Harmony remote control. The attached IR LED emitter flashes and the Hecto/Onkyo/whatever unit responds accordingly.
