Default Video cam banana plug connections.

I have by unexpected devious means acquired a spare 'Tethered' Video cam that is used on a Uniden Car Cam as the rear camera.
The unit is powered through the 'Tether' from the main unit and runs continuously when selected with a front cam.
The 3.5 mm Banana plug has 4 segments but I have no information or schematic showing what each one is.

Making an 'Educated Guess' (Duuuh) one segment is Positive, One Negative, one for Video at least, and the 4th could be anything from a shield to an actual 'live' connection.
Also I am guessing it runs 5V DC as the base unit has an internal low capacity battery ( 6 minutes recording time) and requires a 5 V 1000 mA power supply to charge it (cigarette Lighter socket).

The plug is moulded and the camera appears to be sealed as it is designed to be mounted externally so I cant pull it apart.
Has anyone got any knowledge on this as I would to use it on something if possible.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

I think you mean a plug like this:

If so and without shematics you can only buy a spare cable for a smartphone headset, cut the wires and measure what comes out of the unit.
Of course you should write down which wire goes where on the plug first.
Any manufatores can wire thes plugs as they like there is no fixed standard.

Its no good cutting the lead, I would need to open the camera case and try to see what wire goes where but that would most likely destroy the unit.
Regrettably your correct about each company following their own plan as there is no industry standard for this but I was hoping someone might have run across this before in their travels.

I think that he's telling you to buy the headset and cut [/b]that[/b] cable so that when you plug it in, you can then test what's on each wire.

    Exactly what I meant
Get a suitable cable from a 2$ shop, cut the end of and write down which wire goes where on the plug.
With that on paper you make sure no wire is touching and plug it into the box.
You should be able to find the 5V supply with no problem - 2 wires.
If there are two wires supplying ground it means the cam video signal uses common ground with the power.
All you need to power the cam for a test is a suitable socket that supplies the 5V, the two other wires are the video signal and you can check if you have to switch them in case the video signal does not use common ground.
Pretty straight forward if you connect the video signal to a monitor. No or bad pic means ground and video signal needs to be switched.
