    Default Wire for "IC" pins

I am making an adapter board. The idea is that the "pins" will plug into the IC socket - old style .1" spacing.

The pins will protrude through the veroboard and be soldered to the traces on top. In other words I need to be able to plug the veroboard adapter into an existing IC socket.

What wire would I need to use to ensure adequate contact in the IC socket?

you could use the pins out of a mounting block

Use header pins soldered to the vero board. They will plug into a standard IC socket but not a machined socket.

This widen the socket connection permanently and make it a loose fit for an IC in the future so you can use another IC socket to connect to the header pins and the IC socket connects to the original IC socket.

The last time I had this piece of gear apart would be about 12 months ago so I am relying on memory ...

I am not sure of the headroom, in the device, so that was the reason that I opted for this adapter method. There is a metal shield soldered over the two ICs. It may become a permanent fixture depending on success or otherwise of the adapter, the headroom as mentioned and ..

If I had an IC socket I could easily test. I should have stated that the adapter will have 28 pins.

You can get through Mouser or one of their affiliates. Is a bit pricey but it is useful if you need it for dev. work.

It is for a one off "go/no go" test.

I have purchased the IC sockets but my adapter design is fundamentally flawed - back to the drawing board.

It should be noted that the centre conductor of Belden RG58 seems to be ideal.

you can get ic socket headers and use a wire wrap socket though the vero board and then solder this to the ic socket header. You can then plug this into the existing ic socket.

The adapter has been completed and the test also completed. it seems that the original IC is OK.

The next step will be the subject of another thread.
