    Default Recycling scrapped VSD's

I have a small number of 15 year old Siemens VSD's that have died or near death and Siemens have no help on there technical help line.
What bits are worth keeping, they have:
    aluminium heatsink that weighs 8.5Kg
    3 x IGBT
    Diode bridge
    24 volt fans
    control board
This i pulled apart was a 22Kw, so the bits are fairly beefy.

If you would be nearby and don't want the stuff I would pick it up for a good price.
Might kill my power bill but am sure I can build a proper induction heater from the parts

I was thinking about mentioning your induction heater too but decided to leave you with the honors

The heatsinks are very saleable. I bought one from a guy who used to service VSDs a couple of years ago with the plan to use it as the sink for a 1 kW FM broadcast module.
This was one serious piece of metal. Approx 300 wide by 600 long and from bottom of fins to top of base would have been 150 mm.
The fins were strong, plenty of them, and the whole heatsink weighed in around 10 kg.
Definitely do not want to drop it on your foot.
Sadly it never made it to being used as it too was lost in last year's fire.
I paid $90 for it and there was enough length to cut it in half and make two PAs.

Thanks guys, i think i might strips these parts and stash them in the hoarding shed
As a comparison, i had a faulty Danfoss 40kw unit and the tech was very knowledgeable on what boards needed replacing. he had parts to me over night. (he now works for ABB)
Siemens after many phone conversations were none the wiser on the issues, so every time one dies now another brand goes in.

I was quite impressed with the heatsink, almost good enough to run the silicon chip Champ
