    Default Screen shadow

This is my lounge room TV. We've had it for about 4 years and it's been a very good TV.
    It's a HD 32" LCD.
Recently I noticed the shadow that you can see in these photos. It probably didn't just suddenly appear, but I don't watch this TV very much (my wife does) and the shadow is not easy to see unless the picture content is just right.

The shadow is exactly the same as is created from water ingress at the bottom of the screen which gets drawn in between the screen layers by capillary action. However, I'm quite certain this TV has never had any moisture of any kind anywhere near it.

    What do you think ?

is it a glass fronted lcd or just the plastic polariser front

i think you correctly identified it

i've got an old lg lcd monitor (plastic type) with similar effects but its from the top down - the glue bond/seal that holds the various layers together is patchy at the top and water/condensation or maybe cleaning spray has wicked inside the outer layer - i got it like that so no idea of its history.

Have seen similar on a Toshiba Regza from the top. No certain how though, the TV is on 24/7 in an air conditioned room.

I have not had it on a big TV but a few times on PC monitors that had been in storage for a long time.
For some reason the moisture likes to collect where it should not and on the way it collects and dissolves dirt, resulting in this smear.
For the monitors it was a simple procedure of taking the metal frame off the panel to get the various foils out.
Marked them for front and up and washed them with soapy water in the bath tub, good rinse with destilled water and let dry.
Some monitors and most likely TV's as well have at least the top foil(s) glued in place, if the foil is tight everywhere but the areas with shadows you know for sure where it is coming from.

Its a bit reminiscent of the problems some CD's were found to have with the foil decaying.
From what I remember, this decay was partly caused by inferior material and the edges of the CD not being properly sealed and moisture entered.
Could this be one of the causes for this shadowing to occur or even the materials used have been found not to have as long a life as first thought.
Everything today is built as quickly and cheaply as possible and as long as it outlast the warranty, that seems to be as good a quality assurance you can get.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

    Plastic front.
Water has never been near it, and I'm the only one who has ever cleaned the screen, with a proper screen solution, a microfiber cloth and I only spray the cloth.

It does not matter how careful you clean it, sometime you just got a lemon that is not properly sealed around the screen films.
Without taking it apart there is very little you could do to fix it.

Must be from condensation then I'd say.

Years ago, I picked up a 32" LCD tv that had been left on the footpath under a tree. It was a cold winter's morning and the tree had dropped dew from its leaves onto the TV. I repaired the electrical fault that it had and installed it in my office. Over the next few weeks I observed the water ingress into the screen rise up from the bottom and stop about 3" high. It stayed that way for months so I decided to try something. I wiped the bottom of the screen with a rag very wet with metho hoping it too would suck into the screen and mix with the water.
    It did.
At first the water increased to about 4" then over a couple of weeks decreased until there were patches and then soon after totally disappeared. That TV has remained clear.
I was lucky in this case because the dust that was on the TV obviously didn't find its way into the screen else it would have been permanently stained for sure.
