    Default Vivid fault

My 32" Vivid (Aldi) TV has a weird thing that happens occasionally.
The image goes into extreme slow mode as though a buffer is filled up and the set doesn't cope.
Changing to the next channel then back again always clears it.

Any ideas about what would cause this so I can fix it ?

Their tuners are not the best.
How is the signal quality shown in the channel settings?
If it is of bad quality it could explain your problem.
I had a different Aldi model for a few weeks until I got a refund for it.
Similar problems just that my model had problems getting ABC and CH31 while all other TV sets I had showed good signal strenght on these channels.
Also the picture quite often became what I called blurry, a HD show on One would be mostly clear and crisp but for a few seconds, every now and then, look like it was an analog picture with no details and clearity.
    DVD's worked fine.
When I bought the TV back the guy said there is a firmware update available that some customer found but I just wanted to get rid of the thing.

Signal strength and quality are excellent.
The picture on this TV is really good unlike some of the other Aldi ones. We've had it for a few years now and found it to be very reliable even though it has a couple of idiosyncrasies.
The other weird thing it does is - the sound cuts out for a split second every now and then and I've worked out that possibly happens when something in the house switches on or off. Doesn't happen very often but sometimes might do it 2 or 3 times in one minute. Bit of a filtering problem there I would say.

Anyway I tried to ring Tempo (Vivid distributor) to see if there was a new update but they wouldn't answer the phone. They gave me an update for this TV 3 years ago. Don't remember if it did the slow mo before that.

I think we are getting somewhere
The problems with the sound (and at the same time or seperate from the sound) and picture is something I encountered with quite a few digital tuners.
I happens because unlike the EU for example, AU does not have strong regulations for the handling of intereference on electronic/electric devices.
Many tuners sold in AU work just fine in terms of not causing interference but they are not especially supplied with measurements to prevent interference by outside RF signals.
The same is true in the opposite direction: there is no legal requirement to ensure a device can not cause electrical interference - classical example in this context is your old mixer or vacuum cleaner, turn it on and certain programs freeze.
In some case this can be fixed in two ways:
    a) For the affected device by adding a proper filter between mains input and circuit board, usually a combination of capacitors and inductivities that filter out anything above and below 50-60Hz.
This does not always work, especially not if the device is a radio or TV with inproper shielding in the tuner and/or amplifier area.
    b) By locating the device that causes the interference and by adding a filter to the device - usually it is a light or motor causing the problem.

Yeah inductive load sounds about right. I guess my fridge could be the trigger considering it's about the only appliance in the house that does its own thing whenever it wants.

Unplug the fridge for an hour or two and select a TV channel that you know had problems.
If your assumption is correct there should be no problem during these 2 hours.
Plug the fridge back in and keep an eye on the TV - if it messes up confirm by doing the same again - every time you switch on the fridge the TV should have a "hick-up".
You can add 2 capacitors and inductivities into the power cord or directly on the motor if you can easily access it.
If you have some electronic scrap around you should be able to find something suitable.
3-8mH for the inductivities should be enough, 0.47 or 0.68µF should be good for the caps.
Inductivities go in line, one in the live wire, the other in the neutral wire, one cap on each side of the inductivities between live and neutral.
This way most of the interference when kicking in should be eliminated.

Did you think about the fan in your heater/aircon?
No energy saving or LED lights that cause the troubles when switching on and off?
Heater in your fish tank maybe?
But if it is really bad than the cause can even be with your neighbours.
One of mine has an old petrol lawn mover, this thing is so bad it renders my TV and radiouseless.
He comes towards the end of his property and all is fine, mover goes half way over the lawn towards my house and the interference starts.
Offered him to check and replce the capacitor on his lawn mover but he said "Why bother? I can't watch TV when I'm doing this anyway!"
    What can you do? ROFL

The problem with the video buffering just happens and can't be traced to anything in particular. At least it only happens rarely.
The sound glitch I can repeat by turning on or off the fan on my gas heater.

I gonna take the back off this thing maybe next week and have a look around. Maybe I'll find a dry solder joint or some wave solder spatter that the manufacturer left there.

    32" Vivid (Aldi) TV

    That's the problem

I fit Car Audio units bought from ALDI and most have engine noise ( alternator and ignition ) the customer complains to me and i say its the cheep cr@p you bought to me to fit. Go back and get you money back and i will fit a brand name unit that wont get interference from your cars electrical system or I can fit filters to your piece of cr@p for a charge on top of the fitting charge.

You get what you pay for.

If you buy cheep most of the time you get cr@p.

vivid are supported by grand electronics in Northbridge in Sydney, that's who we get our parts from anyway
When I explained to the guy what avatar I wanted, that wasn't what I meant!

lol yeah reminds me how years ago before I could aford a good brand I bought one of those aldi car units.
After about a month the volume rotary decoder switch broke. I was driving and my son rang me so I pulled over to answer the phone, tried to turn the volume down but the more I turned it to the left the louder it got. ha ha.
I rang the warranty number and they sent me a replacement unit with a buckled chassis and a scratched front. Mongrels.
So I took that one back to the aldi shop with my receipt and got my money back...lol
