Smile Samsung LCD TV 2007 LA46S81B No Video

Hi guys, I've got a Samsung LCD TV that turns on, has the start up tune and back lighting, But nothing else. If an external source is connected I get audio. Voltages on SMPS are correct, No nasty blown components. Looking for your comments and best advice. I have downloaded a manual. Thanks People!

I'm not sure about the NZ model but in AU that model suffered from faulty caps in the powersupply which played havoc with an eeprom on the tuner board.

For the AU model caps needed to be changed on the powersupply 1000uf and 2200uf, about 5-6 of them.

Also an eeprom needed to be replaced IC1803.

This maybe incorrect, your tuner board maybe different to the AU one.

Thanks! The model number is slightly different to the ones in the fault report you posted. Mine is LA46S81BDX/XSA, A non freeview model. It doesn't have the output cap failure (Samwha brand). I removed those caps anyway for uF test and ESR test. All fine. I would say a fault on main PCB (Tuner). Just need a spare to try.

Hey, Could it be a screen failure? When it turns on the screen glows (back light), If you press menu the screen glows brighter in center where menu would be. Basically what method is used to determine if LCD screen has gone.

Sounds to me like a TCON failure. Check the fuse and the regulators on the TCON board. The fact the TV has nothing on the screen but you can hear the on/off music and the screen lights up, seems to point the finger away from the main board to either the cable to the TCON or the TCON itself. I have upgraded a couple of the LA40S series before and the LA46S shouldn't be much different. As far as I am aware and have seen, the S series used the same panel, TCON and power supply as their R series equivalent. I've actually swapped boards between the series.

Check the TCON. Persist, they were a nice looking panel when running.

Saddle (In the land of Oz).

You prob should replace those caps anyway.
I found that the caps on a LA32R81BDX that I was working on tested fine for esr and uf but one of them was breaking down under load. Can't remember which one it was.
    Only by replacing fixed it.
