    Default RikSat FTA

Does anyone have any information regarding RikSat going FTA? Will it be on Optus D2?

    G'Day Cobber,
It depends which transponders / channels that you are after.
However a Universal LNB will cover them all.
Lo 09750, Hi 11600 and 11700 change frequency.
    An 11300 will not suffice.

Kindest Regards, " The Druid ".

Effective 18 July, RIK Sat will no longer be offered on the UBI platform due to commercial viability of the channel.

Does anyone know which platform Rik Sat will be available on FTA?

If RIK wanted to be a FTA channel they would of done so by now, they have been with UBI for years now so if they really wanted to be FTA it would be FTA.

You should contact RIK directly if you want to ask them as at the moment when July 18th comes round RIK will no longer be available here.. You can watch it online

Apparently the President of Cyprus during his recent visit to Australia announced that Rik Sat will be made available FTA in Australia.

    Dear Mr President,

I write in English because you may not have Greek fonts.

As I have repeatedly stated in annual meetings of overseas Cypriots, the contract awarded to UBI for world distribution of RIKSAT in 2005 said explicitly that in Australia and New Zealand, there would be a monthly subscription for the service. The amount was determined in the contract. I remind you that UBI offered the world distribution for free to the Republic of Cyprus and that is why it was preferred at the time.

Later, I realised that UBI had unilaterally raised the subscription, without our knowing and without our consent. After my repeated warnings, the response from UBI was to terminate the agreement and to ask for negotiation of a new, commercial, agreement.

The Cyprus Government decided to make a new international call for tenders for worldwide distribution of RIKSAT. We are in the process of finalising the specifications.

Meanwhile, to avoid a total blackout, the Government concluded an interim agreement with CYTA for transmission over Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and asked us to allow UBI to continue distribution in Australia and New Zealand on a subscription basis until the new worlwide contract is concluded.

I remain at your disposal for any further information.

    Best regards.

Yes just received a reply from CyBC along the similar lines, its going to be very hard for RIK to find a similar deal that UBI was providing as the letter says the service UBI was providing RIK wasn't costing CyBC anything and now this tender process is happening its doubtful they will find a similar deal or would be willing to pay for the FTA carriage on satellites around the world... IMO interesting to see what happens as RIK was with TARBS before and now UBI for about 8-10 years in total overall now lets see who will be taking RIK next....

I'd stick to the net,at least its there all the time (unless if you are into kiddy porn or Al Quaida),its frustrating for Ethnic families in this side of the world to have their channels FTA..its the old saying.."Seeing is Believing"!

As posted in other threads the tender is under process and could take months for a result and that result still won't gurantee anything, as RIK was offered to pay to be FTA on UBI but RIK declined the offer to pay 25k a month to be FTA.. so will see if they find anyone else that will do it cheaper...

Only other way for them to be available is thru pay tv and UBI don't offer it anymore so that leaves MySat or if there willing to go it alone and charge for it to be on Globecast as a pay channel

I confirm that he stated this during his visit!

In fact he stated that RikSat will be FTA during the first half of this year.

Unfortunately that has not hapenned thus far.

Does anyone else have any other information as to the status of this service and whether will will see it return?

    Don't worry snakie!

Most Cypriots are more than aware that our President is a liar. Nor does he accept responsibility for the negligent manslaughter of 13 innocent citizens when he ordered that confiscated weapons enroute to Syria be momentarily stored next to the island's main power plant in shipping containers in 40 degree heat. It was even revealed that he had agreed with Assad that the weapons will reach their destination despite the arms embargo against Syria. You see, he must condone the killing of innocent Syrian citizens to boot.

Well, he didn't make it because the weapons blew sky high, and sadly 13 people lost their lives. We have a President that washes his hands of this lunacy.

Cowardly and unmanly! But he is but a mere village coffee shop waiter!

So no doubt, he lies to his people and will lie to us without a second of thought.
