Default Apartment trouble

Well you may remember I lost power for 5 days a fortnight ago.. another pipe has burst in the apartment across from me and flooded my flat under 3 inches of water just tonight.

Carpet ruined, some clothes ruined, shoes ruined.. at least the occy and tv is ok. I'll just have to wear some wellies round the place.

I can't believe how fricken pissed off I am.. they still haven't reimbursed me for the last problem when I had to go to a hotel.

What kind of d0dgy real estate agent has no way of after hours contact? Am I supposed to go to a hotel, when they haven't offered to pay yet and I can't even contact them? Of course lifts are down, was fun when it was raining inside the lifts, lucky I got out before they froze up.

Then again, the real estate agent is run by Norm Carey, of Westpoint fame.

Fire Brigade showed up but had no key so had to wait for chief to bring one over from the station - so the pipe went full bore for around 25 minutes.

I think it's time to move to a new place to live!

Sorry about this - just needed to rant.

For it to happen twice that building must be screwed in some way... probably getting some movement... I'd be getting out of it myself.

Are you sure?

It might be wise to add them to any compensation claim as the spray and condensation could well have caused them damage that requires replacement

Seriously. It might take weeks for the damp to dry & for the crust to form inside and start shorting out the PCB's giving rise to all sorts of intermittent faults

You should have learned after the first time to drill holes in your floor.

Not a good thing to happen, listen to what Fernbay posted, they are wise words.

gee your having a great run, seems that the plumbing in your building might not be quite up to scratch, best of luck with your claims, I have to admit in my experience, when I was a tenant, I had to get a little nasty to see results.

Thanks Guys
ok off to a hotel tonight, no power for a few days at least. no lifts for at least two days and carpet in whole apartment needs to be replaced. Great!

One thing - so much water plunged down the lift shaft that it was actually raining in the liftsl. Looked fantastic - I haven't seen a water feature in a lift before, but probably wasn't good for the electrics.

Had the carpet cleaners in this morning from about midnight to 2.15am - they did a very good job, there are no waves when I walk around but the carpet is still both moist and rooted. I was the only person that stayed on my floor last night, after the last 5 day blackout, as soon as this one happened people were packed and out the door in just a few mins.

Would have been nice if the firies had brought the key to the control room so they could have shut down the sprinkler water flow, but they did come from another job and not the station.

It's the stairs that kill me - one of the carpet cleaners lugged an industrial cleaner up 13 flights of stairs by himself - that would have weighed 40-50 kg at least. Now that's dedication, but he has probably f***ed his back.

ok back now. Apparently it was a person tinkering with a sprinkler head and accidentally broke it off.

My place is nearly all ok, cept I have to now bill the owner for accom expenses and I have to run 4 blowers and a dehumidifier unit for 36 hours in total. Is there a way of calculating elec costs? or should I just round it to say 30 bucks?

Carpet is all going to have to be replaced anyway.

Go and find yourself a really good law firm that specialise in screwing companies and sue their arse off (the body corporate) and use the money for a deposit for your own place. (I'm assuming you rent...)...It's not as if you haven't earned it...
