Category 2 is barely worse than a hailstorm.

You ever been in a good cat 2? Cyclones are far worse than any storm in that they are larger, the area of damage is wider and unlike a storm they hang around for hours.

Anyway, when is the last time PERTH had a cyclone? That is bizarre. Perth is around -32 south latitude! Compared to the other side of Oz, that's like just north of Newcastle getting a cyclone!

1978 was the last major one to hit the South-West.

It was odd weather in Perth yesterday, 40 degrees, rain, high humidity and strong winds.

If it continues on it's current track, it'll hit just south of the CBD at 1400 local time as a category 1.

EDIT: BOMs latest prediction is for it to smack squarely into the CBD as a tropical low at 1700

Now category 1 and still 400km's off the coast, nearly a storm cell.
And yes Learjet, I was around around when Althea landed - and where Althea landed. Thing is I was maybe three years old and don't remember a thing other a few local tales of the damage. It is weird to get one so far south but a lot of rain and storms should be the worst of it.

this bom page is a good reference of the paths of previous cyclones-

the 100 years makes quite a mess, and you can expect a lot of the earlier ones not reported either.

Anthony is about to hit but Yasi is not far behind.

This is TC Yasi from a few minutes ago from NOAA 19. Another satellite pass for Anthony in a few minutes.

Could I get the link to NOAA 19 learjet, cant find it for the life of me.

Edit: do you receive these yourself direct from satellite?

It's getting a bit windy a little further north here. Not overly concerned about anthony where I'm situated

It's not a link. I receive these directly from the NOAA satellites on 137 mHz using a minikits receiver and various wood antennas.

This is the last satellite pass from NOAA 15 a little while ago. IR and Visible.

Further research told me as much.

They show some nice quality images, yasi is the one that worries me, that system is huge compared to Anthony.

Yeah Yasi looks big and scary. Will be keeping an eye on that one.

Some of the best MTSat images can be found here.

During daylight the visible light resolution is 1km per pixel, which is better than the NOAA polar sats I receive. The IR resolution is not as good but at least there's an update every hour.
