    "If you are not carrying on an "enterprise" - as defined in the legislation - you do not need to register for GST. If you are carrying on an enterprise and your annual turnover exceeds AU$75,000, the legislation requires that you register for GST. The definition of an “enterprise” covers commercial activities but does not include hobbies."

    A hobby of mine is to buy stuff cheap and flog them off on ebay.

    Great news, they are cleaning out the sellers who try to jump ship on their tax obligations and make it difficult for those running a legitimate operation.

    The poor wife has been flat out all weekend trying to prepare to close the books for the year........

    I got the honorary job of sweeping and mopping.

    Edit forgot to mention the ATO has been doing this for years, not new news.
