    Default Melb Accommodation

Gonna be there for a couple night in october and looking for somewhere to stay. Preferably walking distance to shops and the like aswell as food places. Dont wanna go overboard but anywhere up to around a couple hundred a night would be fine. Tried google but so many come up i have no idea and get lost, anyone whos stayed in the places around there with comments would be great.

If you want a really cheap place to stay in the northern suburbs there is a Formula1 motel on Sydney road Fawkner, i belive its less than $80 a night (maybe $60) and very basic.
Very close to the airport (half way to the city) and all via freeway so cab is cheap.
Pub is 50 meters up the road.
    Coles/Kmart another 50 meters away.
Train station is 10 to 12 minute walk from there.

Good and cheap if your flying up, on a budget, but the area is a little slummy.

Its the cheapest i can think of.

Otherwise heaps of independent Motels a little outside the CBD that are affordable.

lOL Lucky he didnt have a rubber band cocked at the police officers.

Coburg, East coburg and Fawkner a little have become trendy.
Pentrige prison has been redeveloped with a upmarket housing development.

Hate to have the block where the showers use to be though.

I bet you would have some good stories tell.

So did newbies have a really worried look and hold onto the soap really tightly?

what type of shopping? high fashion or department stores?
museums & art galleries & federation square might interest you... everyone goes there.
Try googling serviced apartments as well as hotels.

    Yep, they sure did.

H division wasn't so bad, if you kept your mouth shut and kept outta trouble.
I saw more fights and other stuff in A and D divisions and in the remand yards.
And the drugs.........For a price, you could have anything you wanted.
(I once saw a garbage bag of weed come over the outside fence one day, a screw walked over to it, opened it to check it, then handed it over to a very large prisoner who was doing some serious time for him to sell inside)

I also learnt how to play Canasta and 500 REALLY well, and finally learnt what it was like to really crave a smoke so much that I bought a packet of tobacco (White Ox I think it was) and taught myself to roll my own.

But that was a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago..............about the same time as Mango was there I think, give or take a few years.

I remember hearing one guy squealing like a stuck pig one afternoon, he'd bent over to pick up the soap and yes, he did have long hair!

i was there over 50 yrs ago lol.

champion ruby was the tobacco those days, and i never saw any drugs or knew of anybody who had drugs.

as for throwing stuff over the fence u didnt have to do that as the place was honeycombed with tunnels under the farm, as kids we usta go in there and knock of the vegies.

My son recently booked a room at the Medina for his 18th get together for $270 a night for a 2 bedroom apartment with views in the city. A very large room with kitchen area and balcony.

    One bedroom would be cheaper.

The docklands and casino area are your best bet for food and music and a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

Just a word of warning the city centre is a little rough after dark so be cautious.

I wonder if Mango and Maxileech shared the same cell.
