Default how to replace the surgical rubber

can anyone tell me how to replace the surgical rubber and attach it to the leather strap? Attachment to the steel frame is the easy part.

I found replacements online already attached to the leather but i'm sure importing might cause issues.

Not sure where to get the rubber but wouldn't it be easier to only use one length of rubber and just loop it through the leather?

i have the rubber, it is the loop around the leather. Look closely, it appears that the rubber is cut and it loops through itself. There is no knot & the pieces of rubber are 2 independant pieces.

I can see that but what's stopping you to make it out of one piece and to pass the rubber through the holes in the leather in one piece?
If you insist on doing it the way it is in the pic, you'll have to get some vulcanizing glue to glue the fold over together.

I had (Hi Mr police man ) a few high powered sling shots, the rubber has a slit near the end, you pass the tube through the leather strap and then thread it through the slit in the rubber tube to tie it around the leather pouch.

Pain in the arse to do, weirdo's way would be much easier to do.

This says they post to Australia. Not the complete unit, so what's the problem?

Slingshots aren't illegal, at least not in NSW. Given that crossbows are legal in QLD, VIC and NT, I doubt they are there too. You can buy the complete replacement rubber with the pouch attachment in any of your local gun shops.
You can also import the rubbers no issues at all. They're not illegal.

BUT .. the slingshot shown in the picture is illegal in NSW.

This slingshot is called a "hunting slingshot". What makes it illegal is the arm brace. A normal slingshot that you can buy from any gun shop without a license does not have the arm brace. Not that some people make up their own brace as a retrofit.

Unfortunately, I think all serious slingshots are illegal in NSW

WEAPONS PROHIBITION ACT 1998 - SCHEDULE 1

(6) A slingshot (being a device consisting of an elasticised band secured to the forks of a “Y” shaped frame), other than a home-made slingshot for use by a child in the course of play.

You could always claim it's home made and you're still a child

Can anyone tell me what holds the rubber tubes onto the metal arm ends ?
What stops it just slipping off ?
(I am looking at the OP picture)

I haven't seen one in real life.

I might just buy the rubber tube, and try to make the arms myself.

Providing you have a bulge or a bend and the rubber is a stretch fit, when you pull on it it grips the handle tighter the more you stretch it.

If you try buying one and having it sent here , you will find that customs will confiscate it and send you a rather nasty letter. That I can personally confirm

ggibson , click on the thanks button on the lower right hand side of the post.

I think if you read the various State laws, you will see what an earlier poster inferred. That either part of the device is not illegal.

This is how one Australian Camping site deals with it:-
Quote:
We have Trumark slingshots, Marksman slingshots, Alpha slingshots. Email us if we dont have the slingshot you need. All slingshots will have the package opened and the latex disconnected from the frame to comply with Australia wide laws. Local Laws

Interesting, I was previously thinking of trying to order the rubber and frame seperately (probably cannot order the frame, without the rubber though).
I didn't realise, that just by dismantling and putting in the one parcel, made it legal.

This site seems to have a special order code, for sling shots to Australia.

I don't know if they get through NSW customs though.
