The best GPS is a windows based one that allows you to install a version of every GPS software

Nothing is better than anything else , it purely depends on personal preference which is why having the ability to install multiple programs is desirable. At a guess I would say Tomtom is the most popular to probably iGo/mio.

GPS prices have really plummetted compared to 12 months ago.

TomTom still have the best reputation and make quality products. Garmins are ok. Mio (and similar running IGO) are usually cheaper brands. But it really depends on the individual.

Personally, having used a lot of these devices, I still find TomTom the best in regards to its excellent interface and route plotting. Plus you can find heaps of maps on the Net if you do your research. TomToms are slightly more expensive, but I recommend not just buying the cheapest device.

The bottom of the line system will get you there and deal with what happens when you get lost. Fancier systems do nifty things like speaking the names of the streets, larger screens, routing around traffic, tell you where the nearest gas is, and expand the range of maps. The system you choose has a lot to do with how far you travel and how much you want to spend.

Default Gps

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is the only fully functional Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) in the world.

Depends entirely on how you define better.

They are cheaper, but not as easy to find free map updates for for example and arent generally cutting edge feature wise.

Only by some.

I dont believe there is any such animal.

Certainly if you choose to discard the gps quickly and replace it with a new one, those low end gpses have some advantages, but you do miss out on the more fancy features like editable maps etc.

As others have stated... Personal preference...

Then what do you mean GPS ?

The hardware or the software ?

Both are important and it is then compounded by what you wish to do with it...
