Default 7" ebay GPS

Just got myself one of these off ebay.

7" Bluetooth FM Car Navigator+Wireless Reversing Camera - eBay, GPS, Electronics. (end time 19-Oct-08 19:44:25 AEST)

Not sure if anyone has bought one of these but I'll report back on my findings when it arrives

Yeah, I've got the same model (but not the reversing camera).

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it except for the lack of external volume control and the battery life which is absolute crap. I'm lucky to get 2 or 3 minutes out of it - this doesn't worry me too much as it will only ever be used in the car. In fact, I'm considering hard-wiring it into the dash as it's a pretty big screen to have hanging off your windscreen.

The AV-in (which will be your reversing camera input) shows a pretty good picture and we sometimes use it to play DVD's for the kids when going on a long trip by plugging in a portable DVD player run off the cigarette lighter.

Mine only came with one GPS intsalled (same as "Nav 1" in this listing) which is IGO8. It's pretty smooth when driving along and works reasonably well with the limited use so far.

I haven't used the other functions a great deal (like built-in MP3 player and bluetooth) but they seem to work as expected. Mine only came with a 1GB SD card and is running a chinese version of WinCE. I'm yet to try and 'crack' into it as it's a bit tricky with no english language

that sounds like a nice size screen, no squinting to see anything.

Something I noticed between my 4.3 inch tevion, and the 3.5inch. The 4.3inch actually has smaller text, because they squeeze more on the screen. The benefits is that you have more information and more map on screen, but the disadvantage is that if you were squinting at a 3.5 inch you're gonna be squinting even more at the 4.3 inch... And that's probably not something you'd expect.

The screen's not as bright as I would like, but still it's a handy little unit.

Yeah, basically the GPS software runs off the SD card so as long as you use the PNA version I don't see why you couldn't update it. I've not played with mine, although I did load TomTom on it but the moving images weren't as "smooth" when driving along.

No website support, etc so if you want to have a fiddle you're on your own

The screen isn't that good when it's even a tad sunny.

Make sure you have TTS installed.

Ok here is my review (camera not tested as getting pro to install)

The unit is quite large which is expected with such a huge screen. Think of hanging a 7" photo frame on your windscreen or an old VHS tape. When I first took this unit into the outside I found it rather hard to see the screen in the sun. But once it was in the car it was easy to read. The resolution is not the best but this can only be expected on such a cheap model. Still looks good but not as good as my ASUS 636N (which is a lot smaller in size).

Everything works as expected mp3,mp4(video,avi),gps, bluetooth with your mobile. The 2gig SD does limit you with your video but nothing a little compression wont fix.

Igo8 is one of the gps software. I have tried to update it to the latest version from PPCwarez with no luck. Its version 8.0.0.49545 lewys edition. If anyone has any help on this would appreciate it. The map was easily updated with the new release R15 from PPCwarez which is the most important thing I suppose.

The battery seems like it can not be changed as taking off the battery cover shows a thin battery with wires going deeper into the unit with no visible connection.

The sound can be quite loud from the internal speaker. And yes you can play mp3's and gps at the same time over your radio. But you can not adjust the two sounds independent of each other which makes it hard to hear GPS over the music.

The machine speed is quite good and slows a little with both gps and mp3 but its still fast enough.

Overall this unit is great and well worth the money. I'll let you all know when I get the camera installed in my ford escape but wont be for 2 weeks. And yes the camera is included in the price.

Fix for igo8 upgrades for this pna

There is no screen res in Igo8 standard pack for this pna which is a funny 480x234. This PNA is 480x234 which if you look inside the data.zip file located in your update from ppcwarez, inside the ui_igo8 dir there is no dir 480_234. So just copy your dir from your original data.zip inside igo8 dir on your pna unit to the upgrade data.zip file that you got from ppcwarez..

Not to sure if they update that area of the files (so you might be missing out on something). If they do I suppose you would haVE TO go right through one of the other dirs and convert all the picture files into 480x234 which will take you a day or two

Just another update. There are to version this guy is selling. 64meg flash and 128meg flash. I have got the 64meg, just installed tomtom7 pna which runs for 2sec then crashes saying not enough memory. Which is weird due to the fact that my asus636N has only 64meg..

I bought the same one too. Loaded up with the latest iGo maps fine.

Only problem was the wife said get that monstrosity out of my car. She said she wanted a GPS not a home theatre system.

It's kinda big. Great for movies.

Got another 3.5" on ebay for $79 - loves that.

Anyone interested in mine, message me (Sydney).

Well I took the plunge with one of these and it fired up perfectly took us to melbourne without a prob but then the screen started flickering and it stopped. A reset brought it back to life. same thing again and reset brought it back. Then nothing only a click when i hit the power button. I have confirmed that both chargers are alive and it was on the car charger when the probs started not just on battery. It feels like a power issue to me. Could it be a dead lion internal battery has caused this? any ideas?
