Default An interesting dilemma!

Hi All,

I'm a CFA volunteer in Victoria and have been wanting to do this for a long time.

I would basically like to be able to receive a page and have it send any info from the page to a GPS.

Now getting the Page info to the computer is the easy bit however extracting the info onto a map and then getting it to the GPS seems like it will be hardest.
Unfortuantely our pagers don't always give accurate address locations so plotting it onto Google Maps will be severely difficult.
The only solid thing we have is a Melways reference.

I have looked into several GPS unit solutions.
If I had to go with address then linking it to Google Maps AU would probably be the easiest way.
Google & Garmin have teamed up so now it's possible to hit "Send" on Google Maps and it sends that address to your favorites on your Garmin in a matter of seconds.
However if it is a dodgy address that comes through (often they given an intersection plus a road nearby). Then to get to the incident its just a matter of hitting "GO." Also Google has difficulty looking up intersections. If only they had the ability to look up Melways references t

The other solution I can see is the Navway GPS from Melways. It has the ability to look up a melways map reference however there is no software or mapping intereface for it with the computer to send the melways reference to it.

So I guess the second option would be much more viable however I don't want to go out and buy one of those units if it can't be done. Does anybody know wether it would be possible to send the melways reference to the favourites on the Navway?

Does anybody have any other ideas/solutions?

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Adam

Thanks for the replies!

Lat & Long cannot be sent, the only info we can be provided with is the nearest intersection and a melways reference...

If you have a street intersection then there is a good chance you can geocode this to a lat & long using Google's Map API.
