Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Hello Mio GPS Owners, I purchased a Mio C520 GPS back in May 2008 and it came with a Free MioMap 2008 Upgrade Offer for Australian Maps. Since then I have received two identical emails one dated 11/07/2008 and then 11/09/2008 from Mio Australia stating the new 'Free' map software will be processed within 60 days. On both occasions the 60 days came and went but still no 2008 maps!! Have any Mio GPS owners received their free MioMap 2008 upgrade yet?? Maybe Mio can change it to the 2009 MioMap Update Promotion... ![]() Dear ***Satman*** Re: Mio Map Update Promotion Thank you for your recent submission. We would like to advise you that we have received a valid entry and we are currently processing your claim. Please allow up to 60 days for final processing. A further advice will be sent when your claim is ready for despatch We look forward to your involvement in future promotions. Thanks and kind regards, Mio Technology Australia Last edited by Satman; 07-12-08 at 01:15 PM. Reason: added copy of email |

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | I Spoke to Mio Tech Australia last week... due to a technical problem with the first batch of CD's they had to be sent back to the manufacturer. Mio Tech told me that they hope to have the new CD's ready to send out early January 2009. |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | After waiting for almost 7 months, the updated maps and firmware finally arrived today, together with a free pouch (sock). I'm not sure if I'm game to install it, since I had problems with the unit not been able to load the map. It was a frustrating episode, as Mio tech support told me that I had to re-install using the CD that comes in the box. Who in their right mind carry a CD and laptop (may be reasonable) on holidays? Thank you for allowing me to release my frustration here! |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I'm trying to install the updated 2008 firmware and map (which I have patiently waited for since May) today and the device (MIO c520) freezes at the point where it's showing the USB connection screen. I've tried turning the device on and off, but always get back to the USB connection screen. Also tried to re-install the firmware, but no success. The frustrating thing is that on on my computer, a message box appeared and said installation was successful. Now I can't seem to use the device at all - Can anyone help please? thanks |

Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Now that doesn't sound good, I wonder if they changed something to stop unlockers?

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Yes, I've been reading that now it's a Navman clone - using CE still. Perhaps we all need to go over to a Navman unlock? Sorry not a technical person so if anyone has more info on this I'd like to know - really want to still use the IGO8 from miomap 3.3 days. cheers |

Rep Power: 6 ![]() | The Navman Unlock is the same as the Mio, you just need to create a folder on the SD card that suits your model & put the right executable name in there & it will boot off that. Possibly they have change either the folder or the executable name or disabled boot from SD at all.... When you device boots, there should be some white text on black background...what does it say?

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Ok ... here's the fix ... 1. Make a new folder on your SD card called : Mantas405A43_AUS 2. Copy into it these 3 files from the SD card root : MioAutoRun.exe, MioAutoRun.mscr and MortScript.exe 3. Rename MioAutoRun.exe to Auto.exe, rename MioAutoRun.mscr to Auto, mscr Now having got it load through hard boot ... Redirect Miomap link to: Program Files\Navman\SmartST_CE\SmartST_CE.exe on internal Flash drive. cheers |

I did have the cracked files on the GPS with some US maps on an SD card, so I don't know if this has effected the Firmware upgrade. I called the MIO tech line today and got messed around for ages, and all they said was to press and hold the power key for 15-20 sec and it will re-boot the unit, and then re-start the firmware upgrade. Well it doesn't and they were no help at all. Has anyone got any Ideas? I think stimulaterex and I have the same issue. | |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Yes, having just done a test run with the "update" my advice too : DO NOT USE THIS UPGRADE !!!! Several bad things ... 1. lack of on-screen info 2. dangerously incorrect speed zones in Adelaide - these have been changed 3 years but this Navman still had them wrong 3. illogical route selection 4. want to cancel a route? good luck 5. slooow updating to route changes Really the DVD needs to come with a large WARNING label - Firmware will be changed!!! I will be asking for a wind-back to Miomap 3.3 next week ... cheers mAestr0 |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | To anyone who has already used this MioMap 2008 "update" and is hating it!! (Like I was!). You can use the upgraded firmware and still run MioMap 3.3 side-by-side with MioMap 2008. Pretty much all the details are here You will need your original DVD for your Mio Unit and a copy of MioPocket as well as some crack files...but after that work it's awesome! :-) Just make sure you backup your POI's because I lost all mine :-( Don't waste your time sending your Mio Unit back to Mio for the firmware downgrade.....increase its functionality with MioPocket! |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | Thanks for the link and advice ... I found the whole unit was running slower than when it was a "proper" mio c520. Be interested if anyone else has also found their IGO8 etc running slower ... and also I can not soft reboot using the on/off button - have to go thru a menu, since the "upgrade". |

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | I got my Mio C520 2008 firmware and maps loaded eventually after a couple of frustrating hours... The firmare loaded OK in a few minutes then GPS rebooted then the dreaded USB connection screen would not go away. After mucking around with MioMore Desktop 2008 and connecting / disconnecting the USB cable a message came up something like 'your GPS does not have software loaded do you what to load the software?' I clicked 'Yes' and it took about 10 minutes to load. After this the menu's etc came up and I was able to set the time zone etc. but when I tried to use the GPS it said the maps are locked and would exit the program. I tried to connect the USB while using MioMore Desktop 2008 to enter the 'Product Keys' and it would freeze the program instantly... Ctrl Alt Delete was the only option here. The fix is USE THE REAR USB CONNECTION ON YOUR COMPUTER yep I could forgive you for thinking how the F@<K can that make a difference but it does. I have a Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop PC and using the rear USB connection fixed everything... So I suggest if you do the entire upgrade procedure using the rear USB it will save you hours of frustration... Let me know how you go, cheers. The new software certainly DUMB'S DOWN the GPS compared to MioMap 3.3... but after using it all last weekend I kind of got used to it... I suggest people use MioPocket then the options are endless |
