You get what you pay for - epecially with Chinese GPS systems.

And double postings are only annoying for the people that should answer them!

Only my personal opinion : I'm getting sick of tired of this chinese rubbish - no documentation ,chinese interface for Windows and neither quality nor support for what you've paid for. If you think you save a lot of money by buying crap you will most likely notice that you pay twice : once for the chinese crap and the second time to get a real GPS that actually works.

As DU said you get what you paid for...do a little research before you buy...you said you got it from Elinz that means they are Australian reseller so its easy for you to send it back or contact them about your problem...

If it makes you feel any better jet17.

I know of 3 Navman Tracker GPS units costing $1350ea... and all are rooted, failing back lights, won't lock onto sats, loose a lock when stationary etc etc.

So its not just cheap Chinese crap that fails.

Getting back to the original request.....

Not an expert... but.... to start with
Is the Nav path set correctly to your selected software?

Have you had a good read of Hollowmans thread

If you want a multimedia thingy for your car and not loose an arm and a leg : the first choice might be a chinese GPS.
But there are a few things that needs attention :
    1. make a complete backup of everything that can be accessed - some offer a USB port where you can connect them to your laptop or PC.
    2. if you want to add an extra safety line : use a tool that offers access to the registry and export the whole thing into a file to keep it safe on your PC
    3. use a filemanager installed on the SD card to copy all files and folders from all other drives to the SD card - copy all that on your PC
    4. now you would be ready to install some other software , best to start with a nice "skin" like MIOPOCKET or similar that offers a nice menu and a multimediaplayer
    5. as soon as you got it working : make another backup of it

Sounds hard ,but keep in mind that you get poor support and if you have working backups you should be fine - as long as you don't have one of these units that have no recovery functions. Meaning:
Usually if you do a hard reset or remove the internal battery the device reverts back to factory default ,except for all that was stored on SD or extra partitions.
China saves some money by not providing these recovery functions anymore - so if you kill your registry you kill your device -same for deleting files. Once an important file is gone your device could end up as a brick.

I'm trying to get a generic firmware for these for quite some time ,but it seems the "manufacturer" actually gets the hardware with a pre-installed system from somewhere else... They could provide the software ,but not the firmware that actually holds the Windows system and basic I/O funtions.
If you get one of the "good" ones that already offer a good menu that you can modify or least allow a skin to be installed you are reasonable safe.

On my unit, to do a hard resett with the ignition turned off, i press the power and function button, while still pressing both buttons turn the ignition on.

There is also a restore setting in the menu which is on mine the last menu.

    Hopfully yours is similar

sounds like backup battery is flat, or power wire for permanent power(memory retention) is not wired correctly.
