| Junior Member | Hi, I am new to GPS, and have purchased above unit from JB for $148, and was wondering if possible to update to newer maps etc. I have been reading some of the thread about the IGO v8 and newer sensis maps that are linked here. Firstly, is it possible to update the maps, if so how, or will that just bugger it all up? I read this thread Nav-N-Go 8 AUTO INSTALL on updating a PDA or PNA (is what i have a PNA?) Secondly, if I mucked around with it and overwrote some files trying to update and it stuffed up, can it easily be recovered back to original files? Basically, how easy is it to make it worthless. Any help or direction would be appreciated. Perhaps some of the terms you guys use commonly could be explained a little bit for me and others who are new. Thanks. |

| Junior Member | hey mate i bought the QNG360 for $148 two days ago. It came with destinator 7 which i found to be to cluttered. Anyway cut a long story short its now running Tomtom 7 with latest Aus maps, off a 1gig SD card I bought from Strathfield car radios. My unit is running Windows CE 5.0. I got the tomtom7 working after about 1 hour of messing around (never owning a gps before) so it was all new to me. Goodluck |

| Premium Member | You need to create a shell.ini file and pop it on the sd card. Just copy this into notepad and save it as shell.ini. Code:
If you want to run some alternate software from your sd, your shell.ini file will look something like this. Code:
You just have to point it at the right spot. |

| Junior Member | Navsoon website has a package of TT6 w/Aus Map basically extract that onto a memory card. Do a hard reset on your unit and load it up. If your interested in TT7 that takes a little bit more work to unlock maps etc A bit of reading in the TT7 threads will lead you in the right direction. |

So ive gone and added the shell.ini file, tried to do as you said.... i dont know how to hard reset the unit. only soft reset is available. cant find any ref to hard reset in manuals etc. when i turn the unit on it goes straight into the original igo program. putting anything on the sd card is ignored. putting the ini file on the system memory is ignored. so not sure if its possible to do anything. guess thats what you get for buying cheap GPS. any other ideas? | |

| Junior Member | hey try exit out of the IGO program to take you back to the main GPS menu eg where it shows Photo MP3 And Navigation Icons. Turn it off insert your new card then start it up again. When i get home i'll try and give you a hand with Tomtom if your interested |

| Member | We just bought a second car, and now I'm considering buying a second GPS unit for it. When I looked in my local JB Hi-Fi, they have similar quantities of the QNG355's and the QNG360's, both priced at $148. Is one a better unit than the other? The supplied system and map is probably a moot point, as Mrs 2905 is used to, and happy with, TT7 that's in our current Tevion P310, so anything else that I buy will probably undergo a similar conversion. I like the idea of a hardware volume control on the side of the '355, and it also comes with a carry bag. But is the '360 somehow better in other respects? Or is there a better / cheaper el-cheapo GPS that I should consider? The DealExtreme units seemed popular at one stage, but that was probably when the exchange rate was more favourable. |
